I'm due in two days and i'm dying to meet this baby (my first)! All the conditions "down there" are favorable for labor and i've even had contractions a few times over the past few days in like 5 hour groups but then they stop :( I've been to the pregnancy/baby forums and there are lots of things you can try to get labor started so i thought i'd bring up the subject here too since i know there are lots and lots of women here. Anybody try anything and actually have it work?? You know like castor oil, sex, walking, etc...
I walked around the mall everyday for several weeks before I was due in order to go into labor, but I still had to go to the hospital to be induced. I asked my doctor if there was anyway to increase my chances of going into labor and he said no. Castor oil, sex, etc. are all wives' tails. Congrats on your new addition, though.
Yeah i had my membranes stripped the other day and got really excited because i did indeed have contraction all day, but then they stopped :(
So tomorrow is my due date and friday i have another appointment and if i make it to that appointment they'll strip my membranes again and talk to me about when we induce if it turns out we have to. They haven't mentioned how far over due they let someone go...
My third child was born this past september. My dr stripped my membranes out twice. The second time she told me to walk around for about 2 hours and don't sit down to rest at all, stay on my feet. This helps the baby's head push on the cervix and streach it out. I was in labor well before the 2 hours was over and he was born within 6 hours. Good luck.
I went 12 days late on my second. My doctor felt if the baby is not in distress, there is no reason to try to rush things. After eventually getting induced, I have to agree. If I had to do it again, I would AVOID being induced.
TRUST ME -- be patient. Remember -- that baby will never be so quiet and easy to clean up after as it is right now!
I had my membranes stripped for my kids, it didn't do anything. My first was ten days late, my second came a few days early. Sorry to break it to you, but the first ones (from everything I know and have heard) don't come when expected and are normally late, not early. Good luck.
LoveBug- When my sister was prego with my neice she had sex the night before and then like around 2am the next morning she was in labor....so we all gave a wink and a nudge to her hubby tellin' him he was the reason she came out early!! :) Good luck with your new addition!!! :)
Momma to Gunor Shane and Russel Gage Marcus!! Best boxer boys in the world!! :) *Formerly Oscarsmomma*
Pretty sure i'm getting less sleep now then i will once the baby comes. All my joints hurt now so sleep really doesn't exsist at all. At least once the baby is here i can get like an hour or two at a time. Today is my due date and its a grumpy day without labor!!! Makes you feel like there is something wrong with you and labor may never come on its own even though i know its normal for babies to be late, especially first babies :(
Lovebug, I know you're getting fed up with it all, and want the baby to show up NOW, but believe me, induction is not the best way to go. Just relax, or try to and watch your favourite movies, make a couple of dinners to put in the freezer, walking is good. Don't worry, the baby will be here, probably when you least expect it. Good luck, and I can't think of better christmas present.
Yeah i'd like to avoid medical induction if possible. I've read alot that says its pretty terrible unless you're fully drugged. My doctors haven't talked to me about induction yet though. I see them again this friday and we'll just try stripping my membranes again while we talk about what happens if i go to far over due. My birthday as well as my husband's birthday is on the 23rd, maybe our first born is destined to share our birthday with us. That'd be kinda neat even though i can't imagine being pregnant that much longer.
Sorry i hadn't updated, you're right i had my hands full. And the computer is downstairs and with being sore its a bit hard to get down here. I had him on the 16th. Just woke up that morning with pain and the contractions were 5 minutes apart from the very start. He was 4 days over due, wieghed 8lbs 2.5 oz and 21 inches long. Born at 8:06 pm after about 9 hours of labor but only 50 minutes of pushing. I had an epidural after the first few hours but you know that really does not exactly cover the pain of the pushing lol. Wow that burns! He actually came out really pretty, no bruises, no cone head, and not alot of yuck on him like some babies at birth. I'll get pictures up as soon as i can :)
Oh yeah and i actually am getting more sleep now then before. Not true for the first couple nights cause of nurses but now that we're home he has magically slept nice 3.5-4 hours blocks at night and since i'm not pregnant anymore i don't have the huge trouble/pain rolling over in bed lol.
I know the feeling of more sleep after they are born! With my kids i was up every hour to potty, after they were born i got a WHOLE 4 hours of sleep ...LOL. But at least it was only once in 8 hours vs 8 times!
