Has anyone ever played the game Rock Band (comes for PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360). It looks fun.. and thinking of asking for it for my birthday.. plus a 360 since face it.. no one is making PS2 stuff anymore and I need an upgrade.
I read a review for this written by a guy who has been in bands and toured. His bottom line was if you're going to spend hours and hours with buddies pretending to play in a band, why not actually START A BAND? I think he has a point.
Rock Band isn't about music or about being in a band, it's about pretending. But instead of pretending alone, as you might in karaoke or Guitar Hero, you pretend with other people. Rock Band is Guitar Hero for people with more than one friend. It's a theater group set to music, and just as nerdy. http://www.slate.com/id/2177432/

My son (9) has all of the guitar hero games and decided that he wanted Rock Band for Christmas. He is an only child, but we felt that he would have fun playing all of the different instruments, and besides, we could all play as a family. Also, IF any of his friends/family come over they could play as well, so we bit the bullet and bought it. I would suggest that you try playing it at Best Buy or Wal-mart first. They usually have it set up. Make sure you really want it before asking your parents to drop $500 for it all.
One of our friends has Rock Band. He brought it to our house, and we played on our xbox360 along with about 10 friends. It was a lot of fun. Maybe too much fun, we couldn't get them to leave till past 2am. To be clear, we are a bunch of nerdy, tech-obsessed engineers (the key demographic, as per the review).
But as much fun as it was... we're not going to buy it. For one thing, I was absolutely terrible at it, and it's no fun to play with one or two people (unless you will play online). I don't think we entertain enough to make it worthwhile.
Also worth noting, you need a big TV since three/four different people need to read the screen.
I do recommend the xbox360. We have a lot of fun playing Halo online. Only caveat is that it's a poor DVD player, at least on a 720p television. If you care about that.
I see PS2 games everywhere!!! They are coming out with all kinds of new ones b/c of the PS3...all games for PS3 are compatible for the PS2 as well. We're getting our boys a PS2 game bundle for Christmas this year plus about 10 new games to go with it. I'm seriously considering the Guitar hero game for them too...it sounds like fun!! :)
Momma to Gunor Shane and Russel Gage Marcus!! Best boxer boys in the world!! :) *Formerly Oscarsmomma*
its an awesome game i played it t my brothers christmas eve and i still havent got my voice back. the drums are harder but once you get used to them its not so bad. im not that great at the guitar but i enjoy the bass oh and of course singing.
im buying it for my husband in feb. for our 1 year anniversary
Merico, all my boys have the 360, and loads of games, including rock band and guitar hero. They range in age from 20- 27, and they love it. I think you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Buy the extra warranty on the x-box though. We've heard of people having trouble with the main unit. Take care, Happy Holidays! Pen.
