I am needing to find out if anyone knows how often you can give sitzu's a bath? I just got a puppy who is 11 weeks old and I need to know how often to bathe them. The groomer I got him from gave him a bath last tuesday when I bought him and he was smelling good until Monday of this week and then I gave him a bath Tuesday morning with baby shampoo (I heard it does good for their coat) and he already stinks. I mean he doesn't stink horribly but he doesn't smell pretty like the groomer made him smell. How often can I bathe them and is there a good shampoo out there like the groomers have? Also about fleas... I dont think my puppy has fleas I think it is allergies and I will find out for sure mid Jan when i take him to the vet but how soon can you give dogs flea medication? Like I said he is only 11 weeks so that is why I am wondering...Thank you!
My dog groomer once recommended only bathing dogs three times a year. Simply because the more you bathe a dog, the dryer the skin gets. Then you can get an abundance of problems from just itching to open sores. They sell stuff at the vets office for dogs, it's powder perfume. You just rub it in their coat. Frequent bathing, even with baby shampoo, isn't a good idea if it can be prevented.
I agree on bathing only infrequently. Of course there are exceptions, like when they roll in doggie do. I have had to bath mine twice in the same day (lol). Most dog book I have read recommend only bathing when necessary. I use Lambert Kay's dog shampoo. It works well and they smell good for a couple of weeks after bathing. They come in different scents (I like the baby powder scent).
Thanks for the info given to me. I really appreciate it. The groomer told my husband that we can bathe him once a week but I wasn't for sure if that was correct or not and i wanted to find out for sure.
ya get good shampoo! I know with Tito he gets bathed 1 a month in the summer with oatmeal shampoo and in the winter only if he gets stinky. I brush him every week and that seems to help with odor. The reason he gets a bath 1 a month in the summer is because some of the ponds.lakes he swims in STINK! Or take your dog to the beach and let them swim...they come out with the smell of the beach just be sure to pour fresh water over them after to get all the salt off.
I also agree with bathing only when needed. As far as flea and ticks, I sell a product that the dog or cat can wear on their collar and emits a scent that keeps flea and ticks away. I actually sold hundreds to Iraq and the soldiers wear them to keep ticks away. It is a great product and very inexpesive. You can check it out at www.catfishdogs.com
