Hello, I am new to this site ,and I am a animal and dog lover like most everyone here. I have an adorable pure breed female pug that I have mated with a full breed rat terrier, I have come to find out that everyone is calling this mix breed of dogs "Pugats". I prefer to call them "Pugrats", it just seems better to me. Any way I am just wondering If this breed is becoming popular? **********************************

Well thanks for responding lpn 169. Just wondering did someone pee in your cornflakes tis morning? lol I really should read the rules before I post on new sites. My Bad! To answer your question: I didnt intentionaly breed these two dogs, It just happened, but when something like this happens my attitude is to hope for the best and in this case that would be a healthy litter of pups! Im not worried if I am welcomed to this site with open arms, and hearts. I will still sleep well. In fact If everyones attitude is like yours to new members, I would prefer to find another site to talk to animal lovers. As for your response as this breed being "mutts", well I have looked at some of the pictures of this breed and they are some of the cutest"mutts" I have seen. I am curious to know what kind of dogs or animals you have? I bet In your eyes its the best breed and better than the rest. But you should know all dogs were mixed breed at one time or another. It takes 2 to tango ;} Thats nature and selective breeding for you. Well feel free to blow off your steam at my expense when you feel the urge. I am just a true dog and animal lover that would like to talk with non bias animal people. This world isn't pure breed. Good Day!
Wow Mustluvpugs, looks like your the one with the 'soggy' cornflakes. LPN was just pointing out the rules. No need to get your panties in a wad over it. Maybe reading the rules would not be a bad idea for you as you obviously did not get them the first time or you wouldnt have missed this one, beings Lpn IS a moderator......

its not that people dont like mutts, i have the best mutt in the world! in my own world. In fact one of his nicknames is "MUTT" A lot of the members come on strong only because there are so many pure breeds and mutts that already neeed a home so why try to make a new breed. But you just cleared it up that it was not on purpose. which then is going to bring up you being irresponsible. But some will understand that accidents do happen. So now your best bet is to spay/neuter your animals. Its better for everyone in the long run. But welcome to the site. You will find a ton of awesome tips here!
So first you say: I have an adorable pure breed female pug that I HAVE MATED with a full breed rat terrier,
Then you say: I didnt intentionaly breed these two dogs
So to me it sounds like you were covering up0 your intentional breeding...If it was unintentional and you are a true dog lover you wouldnt be trying to sell them as "Pugats" but you would be selling them to good homes for a low adoption fee(about $50-$100) as Pug/Rat Terrier mixes.
You people make me chuckle. I always heard that you catch more flies with honey, not vinegar, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.It seems like everybody is just sitting at the keyboard waiting to bash somebody, feel free to vent at my expense, it's very interesting to hear all of your comments, but it doesn't seem I have heard from a true animal lover yet. Still waiting.... Oh by the way panty poster, I go commando
Mastivluvpugs, finally, another commando fan. Have you got a picture of your dog? I'd like to see what he looks like, personally. I am a Boston breeder, sap of all saps when it comes to any dog. If you have a pic, I'd really like to see it.
I'm just wondering what the definition of a "true animal lover" is?
I'm not a fan of people intentional mixing breeds - but see I also test my breeding dogs before I breed them to make sure that the puppies I produce will be healthy when they are 5 years old - not just 5 weeks. I would THINK that makes me an animal lover... my dogs also eat high quality food, get great vet care, and have toys and treats - and most nights almost kick me out of bed...
And, um... not every breed started off as a "mixed breed". They were selectively crossed to create breed - with the breeder paying attention to how physical, temperament, and health attributes and downfalls would mesh together. They didn't take two pure bred dogs and randomly breed them together so that could call them a cute name. That is NOT selective breeding... especially since I'm assuming the only reason you bred the two together was because you happened to have a male and a female. I doubt you went out and bought those specific breeds thinking "gee, these would make some nice, sound, healthy puppies".
I always love it when people who mix breeds try and play the "that's how nature works" card. Breeding dogs is not nature - it's something PEOPLE do. They choose two dogs and breed them together. If the dogs were making the decisions, I'm not thinking they would be concerned about how much they could sell them for...
If I were you, I would ask $50-100 a puppy and try and cover the costs of the vaccines, wormer, vet care and food you're going to put into the litter (I would hope).
Hi zero.. thats a cute dog you have. Thanks for understanding and actually not bashing me right out of the box. I will let you know how the pregnancy happened. I bought a 5 year old female pug 2 years ago, from a breeder who had decided to let her go. They told me that she didn't get pregnant the last time they breed her, but claimed it was an older male, maybe he was too old. My sister had a Male 2 years old pug "Duke". I had several friends and family who wanted a pug so we decided to breed them. I breed her through 4 heats, with three different male pugs, and she never got pregnant, after vet checks we decided she must not be able to get pregnant.I decided to stop trying to breed her and have her spayed after this heat, to avoid all the hassles of her being in heat. If you owned a female you will know what I mean, the mess, not to mention every dog in the county waiting at your doorstep when you let her out to go to the bathroom. My neighbor breeds rat terriers, and believe me I never wanted them to get mixed up. I always tried to keep them away from my pug Abbie like they were the plague, when she was in heat. When I let her out to potty ,BigBoi the Rat Sire, had dug out of his fence and was waiting for my pug "Abbie".That little rascal Is quick as lighting, and she was willing. I think they had been planing it for a while. I didnt worry about it too much at the time, due to the last 4 heats she didnt get pregnant, I figured this was the same deal. But now she sure looks like shes swelling up. I hope she is pregnant, I know alot of people that will be ready to give these pups a loving home no matter what there breed name is. Im so excited and my sisters family will be too since the male pug Duke and there sheep dog both had tragic early deaths. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Abbie will survive this and bring joy to many homes. I am a true animal lover and you strike me as one too. I may very well keep a pup and name it "Mutt" but I cant get too excited yet, as I have been let down many times when I thought she was pregnant. Holding my breath and keeping my fingers crossed. Good Day!
To "Dusty" and "No dog". I dont think responding to your comments is worth the keystrokes, but I just wanted to see if you have been on this site so long that you also forgot the rules of treating others with respect. Hmmmmmm I wonder if that rule applies to the animals too? Finding dogs in the sewer? Wow your a top notch animal lover. Please dont respond to my comments, and direct your attention to "Pure Breeds" only.
Hello Abbytyne. My definition of a true animal lover is that I love all animals and all breeds, mixed or pure, regardless of the monetary value that people place on them. I also love animals that aren't for sale! Seems like $$$$$$$ clouds so many peoples minds and way of thinking of animals. Thats why there are so many homeless mutts. If you think about it there are alot more people willing to stop there car on the side of the road and snatch the rott, or the pittbull, or the yorkie poo , and speed right by the hungry mixed breed mutts. I wonder if the dogs know they are mutts, maybee they think.. In the next life I hope Im a sheltie. Good Day-
If you really are a true animal lover , then you would also be concerned about all the homeless dogs in the shelter, and be a responsible pet owner and have your dog spayed. Leave the breeding to the ones that love their breed enough to show, health test, and better their breed. Which does not include mixing it with other breeds to produce an already way out of hand mutt population.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
Mustluvpugs....actually my post was quite honest and not rude in the least. f you took offenseof an honest question, may be your conscious causing you to respond so offensively.
Your original post stated you bred these two breeds together and very clearly read as though it was intentional. It is hard to see every emotion and intention in an internet post, so clear explanantions are the only way to express things, based on how it was originally typed you cant fault anyone for understanding it that way.
Yes, 7 years is too old to safely breed females moreso in certain breeds, pugs being one. Another reason why people are against just anyone breeding.
Btw...thaks for your concern, but I assure you my cereal is fine, as I dont eat Corn Flakes, so must have been someone elses bowl.
People are like slinky's, not really good for much. But its still fun to push them down the stairs.
Dido to what Dusty said, also if she didnt "take" all those times, did you ever have her tested for Brucellosis or is your neighbors Rat Terrier tested? is she having a false pregnancy? Being she has been open for so long the affects of progesterone could be causing pyometra causing her uterus to fill with fluid. She is also a senior pug, she probably doesnt have the muscle tone in her uterine horns to push the puppies out and need a c-section, which as most people with pugs knows, are sensitive to anesthesia and being a senior makes her even more sensitive, likley loosing both mom and/or puppies which opens whole nother can of worms. If you loved your dog SOOOO much you would have done her a favor and had her spayed 2 years ago and save her from the stress of raising a litter at the age of 7 and/or predisposing her to pyometra.
