Around Angel's tummy area and and some on her sides, she is going bald????????? When i pet her tummy, some hair falls out, and i feel like i'm petting a bald rat. I barely tug on her hair and a good chunk of hair falls out. My mom checked on the internet about hair loss, and they said that if a dog gets a cortizone shot, they lose hair, but they didn't say how much hair loss, or even how long the hair loss would start and end after the shot. I'm worried because it's been almost two months after the shot and about 3 weeks ago she started losing hair but this past week it has gotten worse, is this normal since she got the cortizone shot? ever since the day Angel got sick it's been one health problem after another, it completely sucks, becuase i don't know whats to become of her. And she also has a very sensitive stomach all of a sudden and she gets shakey like everyday. We literally can't give her any treats anymore, or else she will barf everything she ate up. Her personality is normal, she is eating her dog food, drinking water and playing. I just did agility w/ her yesterday w/ and agility set i got for christmas, and she was flying through the course running like her normal self. She still has that limp in her leg that she was born with. We have had her tested for absolutely everything last month. SHe was completely healthy, she had blood tests of all kinds to test for worms and all diseases. The only thing we hadn't done was an x-ray, but that was it. THe vet said her leg was the problem and she was just sick last month, she just got her yearly vaccinations, the ones that last for three years! Please help me, we don't want to take her back to the vet again, because she will be getting that $2,000 surgery on her leg, and my mom just spent over a $1,000 on three visits to the vet, thats alot of money. I just want to know why she is losing hair, please help me! thank you, kristina and angel!
If you want pictures or a video of me showing you all how easy it is to pull out her hair or how bald she is, please let me know! Thanks MPR!
now I noticed her hair falling out in her legs because i was petting her and trying to figure out where the bald spots are ocurring, she is currently not losing hair in her face or back, but other than that she is going completely bald, this is freaky, especially today since it has progressed! :(
Angel is eating purina adult dog food, i can only get it at petco and her vet place. I give her refigerated water with ice cubes, because she loves ice. Angel seems to be thirstier and urinate a little more, my mom thinks the vet overdosed her on the cortizone which is giving her a few minor problems, but isn't changing her personality or giving her any pain. I think the cortizone gave her a very weak stomach, because lately we can not give her any bones or different foods or she will barf everything she just ate up. My mom doesn't want to take her into the vet again, because it's just so expensive and we don't want Angel getting any germs from sick dogs being their. My mom always tries hard to limit how much we take her to the vet, even our vet tells us not to come in unless their is something serious wrong or she needs vaccinations, becuase they could get tons of different germs. I hardly let my dog near other dogs anymore unless i know they are healthy. we don't give her any different oils or anything, we just give her regular dog food and occasional table food, normally fruit, veggies, or meat, but absolutely no sugar stuff, no grapes, no onions, never gets into cleaning items, don't feed her raisins, or chocolate. So i guess it's just gotta be the cortizone, i will never let her get that stupid shot again, she has her pills to cover that sort of leg pain. thanks for the help riley :)
ug, my dogs going bald! :( All i can say is Angel's gonna have to hang inside until her fur grows back LOL She looks a little odd right now, and her skin is thinner like the description of an overdose in the cortizone she seems a little bit more tired and looks skinnier but Angel will only eat if someone sits with her and watches her. i'm going to try to put a little weight on her so she doesn't look annerexic, maybe it's just me worrying to much. I got some canned food natural choice and i hope it doesn't make her barf.
My animals have had cortizone shots, my cat has had them many times over the past 10 years, and I've never ever seen such a reaction that Angel is having. It may not be the cortizone.
I'd suggest finding a better food. Petco carries a number of better brands. Blue Buffalo, Castor & Pullox, Solid Gold, and Wysong being just a few. I'd try to find something with omega-3 fatty acids, or a fish based food. Fish oil is very good for the dogs skin and coat. Purina really is garbage, and could be contributing to her problems. And I'll tell you, Blue Buffalo is no more expensive than Purina.
I'd suggest one of those Brita filters to filter out her water. Also maybe an air purifier if you don't already have one. Sometimes dogs are allergic to things as simple as dust.
Get her to the vet and have her tested for cushings disease, not sure how old she is, but it can affect middle aged dogs, poodles and boxers and a few others,( can't remember now ) are more prone to it.
Does she spend a lot of time in doors? I know my dog will molt starting at his back legs during the winter from spending more time in the house. His hair comes out in clumps and makes him look really ragged.
