Ever since my sister has been pregnant, Angel follows her everywhere, and keeps a close eye on her, and is always sitting in her lap or following her to the bathroom. At least once a month we let my sister and her husband take Angel for a sleepover at their house, and Angel loves it, she feels very special haveing two homes, i was just wondering if dogs feel the need to protect a loved one when they are pregnant? Because thats what Angel has been doing, When my three year old cousin hit blair with a toy Angel barked at her as if she was proteccting Blair making sure she didn't get hurt. She doesn't try to bite nayboody and isn't dominant over her, she just loves Blair all of a sudden and is trying to protect her and the baby so they don't get hurt. Does anyone think this could be true? i was just wondering, i think it is kind of sweet for a dog to be protecting someone they love. and if a stranger is coming near Blair, especially men, she stands by blair and just watches them until they are gone, she doesn't go after them, or bark, or even show her teeth, she just seems so worried about her. Is this bad in anyway?
I don't think it's bad. My dog became a bit more protective of me both times I was pregnant. And he loved the babies when they came. Instant bonding. Of course, my husband sneaked the birthing blanket from the room to take home so the dog could smell it and get the baby's scent.
Dogs are so smart! When I brought home all of my baby's my dogs pertected them on inperticular would sleep next to there cribs and periodicly jump up and down to check on them! They did mot like others to be near there baby's either!
does this pup happen to be a poodle?? i have a poodle of my own and i was recently run over by a car by a man who robbed me. i am not bedridden but have only recently been able to get around the house in a walker.
Ok now heres the response part. my poodle has all of a sudden been following me around the house since this happened everywhere!!!!!! even into the bathroom too. OK i am not pregnant, but i am in need of care and protecting and my dog knows it!!! the attention he gives me can almost get freaky you know. he looks at me all day and refuses to leave the room without me. he knows i am injured and when i cry, he crawls on me and gets right into my face to comfort me. just the other week, i fell down and needed real help from a human, and he went running downstairs to get my mom; all the way barking. she came up with the dog to find me (but really to let him outside: thinking thats what he wanted). i would have been on the ground for a lot longer if he had not truly gone to my rescue. a true "Lassie" kind of tial. he has always been very loyal and loving but his love for me is now in overdrive.
sooooooooooo.... yes dogs know. i know he knows i am hurt. he understands and wants to help me and keep an eye on me.
