The Westie pups are 4 weeks now, starting to explore their environment. I started using a litter box just outside their crate, and they caught on instantly, no more pottying in the bedding. I am wondering if perhaps I should use piddle pads instead, though. Which one will make it easier for them to transition to actual housebreaking when they are old enough?
I don't know which would be easier for housbreaking, but I think it is great that they are learning so fast. The only problem I can come up with is if any buyers have cats. It may be confusing. Other then that I don't think either one makes a difference.
Well, I am assuming the new owners will train them to go outside. I would start them on that, but it is way too cold here now, and i can't really run them outside every 30 minutes. I don't want them to develop a habit that will be hard to change for the new owners is my concern. Ideally, I would not want them thinking it is EVER ok to go in the house, but there aren't really any practical options right now.
