i rescued a beautiful white female labrador retriever years ago and she use to lift her leg too. Your message brought back a fond memory for me. Kinda funny looking when they do it but cute....She was one of the sweetest dogs I ever had!
From a behavior standpoint, it is common in Alpha females. From a physical standpoint, if your girl is from a litter with mostly males, she was exposed to more testosterone in the womb. Therefore exhibiting more male-like behavior. I'm guessing you will see her try to mount other dogs as well. Nothing to be worried about, it is completely normal!
Simone is definately the alpha female. I am not sure of her litter mates as we got her from a shelter when she was around 1 years old. She basically keeps the Huskies in line- she does not like their craziness sometimes. The first time that I saw her do it which was awhile ago - I checked her out to make sure that she really was a female dog. I just never heard of a female dog doing this before so I just had to ask. Thank you.
Well my dog isnt a female but my little Terrier mix squats when he pees and he is a boy! Everynow and then when he is in a hurry he will lift his leg but 9 times out of 10 he just squats. When we first got him we honestly thought the shelter made a mistake and he was a girl because he squated and he was so matted we couldnt see his genitals (which even now you cant really see them =]! But then when we got him shaved we realized yes he was a boy but he just liked to sqaut!
