Hi everyone, My name is Barb, and I have a mini daschund, Daphne. She is a tan/black dapple...so adorable! Got her on Christmas Eve 07! She was born 9/30, so she's only nearly 4 months old at this time. We are still working on potty training, but she's doing well. I have a question...is it generally harder to train miniatures for pottying in the right place? About 70% of the time she gets it right, the rest of the time it makes NO sense, she just GOES, wherever....sigh. I take her out every hour, and she does sleep through the night without accidents, so?? what gives? Any advice?
Welcome to TP. You seem to be doing good. It takes alot of time, persistance, consistance. Just be patient. Alot of times, I think that at that age, they start to get the concept that they are supposed to go out to potty, but still have a hard time realizing the "feeling" of having to pee. At night, they are sleeping and therefore it's easier, they are not distracted by play time and new things.
what a cutie pie!! shes adorable. i'm fairly new here too.(bout 3 months-ish) i hope you enjoy it as much as i am. i have a LARGE german shepherd who follows me around like a shadow!! enjoy your christmas baby!
puppies are perfectly potty, but dogs are deliberatly daft. ( just to amuse you!)
What a great Christmas present! How excited you must have been. Yes minis and toys are a little harder to potty train. When you catch the pup going in the wrong place, say no loud enough to startle, not too much to scare. Then take to the right place. Be sure to use "go potty" or what ever words you use to associate the deed while doing the deed. Then give 'em a reward. This helps.
