I always had dogs. Mutts mostly. This summer our dog of 14 years passed away. My husband was lost. It was HIS dog. They were very close. About 2 months later, he started talking about another dog. I resisted. I didn't want the mess, the added responsibility, etc. etc. What I didn't tell him was that I didn't want to go through the pain of losing another dog. Well,he finally wore me down and we got a dog last month. I am so glad we did! I love him, he is part of the family. I can't believe I resisted. I just thought I would mention how much joy he brings to us. We laugh at some of the stuff he does when he wants to play, go for a car ride, whatever.
He is a mutt. We think lab and some kind of hunting dog mix. He is about 2 years old. Buster is very well behaved, house broke, crate trained and knows basic commands. I think he was starved at some point in his life because he eats everything and anything. Maybe that is just him. I never had a dog that did that before. I posted another picture here before, but will post another. I love showing pictures of my dog. This time, we have our son more actively involved in the day to day care and really seems to be helping him. WE don't expect our son to take care of him, but hope that it does teach him some responsibility.
I promised myself when we got this dog, I would not become attached, but it is too late. I couldn't imagine our house without him.
Thanks everyone for your kind remarks. We aren't special for adopting. We wanted a dog. When my husband saw him, there was no doubt he was the one. He came right up to us and acted like he knew us forever. One question, I recently got him nuetered and then read an article that getting him nuetered at his age could cause problems. Everything else I read says it is a good idea. Have you heard anything???? I was reading the article in a magazine at the doctor's office and it was the one and only time that they called me in before I finished the article, so I didn't get the entire story? Should I worry?
You said he is around 2 years old ? He will be fine. Many show people will neuter their males when they are no longer breeding them. Some are 5 years old and up. If your vet thought there would be any issues, he would not have done the neuter. Quit worrying mom, he will be fine ! lol
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
