I adopted a male Dobie puppy when he was 10 weeks old and who is now almost 8 months old. I never saw the mother or father of my puppy. He is only 53 pounds and seems awfully small. His vet told me that he would probably only grow to about 50 pounds and would be done growing by 6 months. My question is this ~ when do Doberman's really finish growing? I feed him only the best and he is healthy and happy all around.
My first male Dobie grew to about 85 pounds and I don't remember him being this small at just under 8 months, but I may remember thinking he was small his first year, too... thanks for your response! This vet has me so disappointed if he's right... :(
Well, this is my 5th doberman, my parents had 4 over the years and I grew up with them. All of them so far have been between 80-105 lbs. One female, 4 males. i am 5'3" tall, and when he stands on his hind legs, he is taller than me (weighs 85 lbs. and will be 1 year old in less than a month). We feed him 3 meals per day, adult food (Performatrin Ultra - chicken and rice dry mix only). The vet at one point told us to take away his lunch meal, and he dropped 15 lbs. very quickly. When he lost the weight, our new vet said to feed him lunch again. He is now happy, healthy, and a normal weight.
