My husband and I recently adopted our third rescued dog, a 75 lb collie mix. We love him to pieces but he appears to have tremendous separation anxiety. Whenever we let him out into the yard, he barks and is destructive until we let him back in. He nearly ate through our gate which was good for neither him nor the gate. It hasn't been a big problem as we don't mind our dogs in the house, however, I am returning to work and cannot immagine him being ok in the house with no opportunity to relieve himself. Any suggestions?
No...it's definately a separation thing. He's fine when I go out with him. He actually fine though when I leave him in the house when I'm gone. I just can't leave him in when I'm at work for obvious reasons.
I at first thought putting a dog in a crate was mean. We crate ours. He doesn't seem to mind at all. In fact, he is always asleep when we get home. Watch out though when the front door opens. In fact, he often goes in the crate to sleep even when we are home. I do not crate him at night, he sleeps with us. I really think rather than let him outside all day, crate him in the house.
