Thats sad, but at least they caught them. And the article is a bit off, so who really knows.
As it stated "Paul Studivant, manager of the Animal Control department, said officers also collected a truckload of equipment for training fighting dogs. Confiscated were a treadmill, weights, chains, body harnesses, protective gloves and a well-chewed wooden "break stick," used to separate the jaws of dogs while they're fighting."
All of the above things are also used by people who don't fight dogs, the more they relate these items to being related to dog fighting the harder it makes for law abiding citizens to own them.
It said "Also found in the home were medications used in training fighting dogs, such as penicillin, multiple syringes, dusty wettable sulfur, hydrogen peroxide for wounds, horse and stable insecticide, vials of serum to fight distemper, hepatitis and pan-influenza in dogs, vitamin supplements, Electro Dex, a food additive for horses that was fed to these dogs, and a harness used to toughen up a dog's bite."
Penicillin is used to treat infection.
Syringes are used to give vaccines and other legitimate medical treatment.
Hmmmm insecticide is used for just that, to keep down/kill insects it doesn't train dogs to fight or aid in fighting.
*vials of serum to fight distemper, hepatitis and pan-influenza in dogs
I really don't get it ?? Medication isn't used to train a dog to fight, its used to FIGHT disease.
*harness used to toughen up a dog's bite
Never heard of that, a harness walks a dog, has nothing to do with biting?
Many people give their dogs vitamins, you can find them at nearly every vet, wal mart and pet catalogs.
I despise the bull crap as much as these people abusing the dogs. Some of the things they write makes no sense. After reading this what will they think of next? Walking your Pit Bull is already a "sign of dog fighting" If you walk a Lab or Pointer your giving it exercise, jog with your Pit Bull and you're "training it to fight"
I almost couldn't read the whole article because it was so ridiculous.
"Also found, Studivant said, was a bolt cutter, which he said might have been used for stealing dogs to be used as practice bait for the fighting dogs. He said he found three collars that appeared to be from yard or hunting dogs; the tags had been torn off and the collars had no use in dogfighting training."
I know a lot of people with bolt cutters, but they are not used to steal peoples dogs. Now everything is evidence of a crime or at all related to dog fighting? I'm not sure what they mean about the collars, how do they know the collars ever had tags if they were supposedly torn off and um what the heck do they mean the collars had no used in dog fight training? Neither does medication to fight canine disease. Lots of people busted for fighting dogs have dog items that are not related to dog fighting. Charge the people, save the dogs and don't allow them to own anymore. Trying to make unfounded assumptions without evidence or make up something isn't necessary.
There was another recent so called dog fighting bust without any evidence of dog fighting. There was neglected Pit Bulls but some how it turned into a dog fighting bust? At least this one has real evidence against the people with scared and busted up dogs. Hopefully they will be convicted. We really don't need this negative bad publicity against our breed with BSL. This is why people have it in their head that Pit owners are dog fighters, gang bangers or drug dealers. Seems like everything we do is related to dog fighting or wanting a mean drug guard.
I think the best way to fight back is to contact your politicians, show them that your pits are not "the problem" Also, pit owners are typically very busy people. That keeps us and our pets out of the public eye. They don't see the great qualities of our dogs. We need to schedule time to take our dogs out in public so people can see how well behaved they are, how obedient, compassionate and loving they are. Blade loves to ride so we regularly load him and the kennel in the truck and go for a ride, to town. Blade is a real looker and very social. We stop and get out with him on a leash at busy parking lots just to show him off. Sometimes people on the streets call out for usto stop so they can get a good look at him. We meet a lot of people that way. Everyone is amazed at how well he presents himself. Personal contact is the easiest way to negate the bad press. One thing is for certain, if we don't do something, it won't get done. Lend a hand. Contact those politicians and "take your dog out to meet new people".
Quality is not expensive, it's priceless. I love blues!
I just came from a friends house. She has 6 Pits. They ran straight for my car and proceeded to wash me with their kisses. They are such awesome dogs. I would love to own one, but live in a county that they are banned. I keep trying to get her to take one of her dogs to a city council meeting or up to the commissioners office. Of course our city council has tried to ban Rotts also. I don't understand people. More people are bitten by mixed breeds than Pits, but that don't make the news. I know of people their own non Pits dogs turned on them, but that didn't make the new either. So sad for such wonderful dogs.
I think it's been said on this forum before, but I'm actually more uncomfortable around little terrier-type dogs than the strong breeds. Probably b/c I've only ever been bitten by the little ones.
I regularly get "attacked" by my friends' Rotties when I go over. They are such lovers. This coming from a 5'2" 115 lb woman. I'm not scared or intimidated at all, even when I invite the big male to put his front paws on my shoulders to give me a kiss. It is so sad that the mistakes of the few are paid for by the many people who love these dogs...
i just wish people would stop putting pitbulls down. i went to tradeday one day with one of my pitbulls and he never tried to bite or bother anybody but he sure did wiggle around their legs like he was attention starved. but there was a couple walking there 2 min.pins and they were barking and snaping at every dog in sight, not that all min. pins are like that.but when they seen my dog i heard the man say, "pick him up theres a pitbull and they dont play they kill". i was so digusted and wanted to call him every word in the book but i decided just 2 let it go.
