I have a 8 month old Potcake ( bahamian mutt), when I first got her I crate trained her & she would sleep in it at night. Now anytime she is in the house she wants to be in it, if I close the door she will bark & paw at it. Any ideas?
It just sounds like she considers that her comfort zone. Our lab Ridd*ck loves his crate. We leave the door open all the time. Sometimes he lays in the living room with us when we're out here, other times he goes back to the bedroom where the crate is, and lays there.
There's nothing really bad about her liking her crate, IMHO. I'd just leave the door open and give her free access to come and go as she pleases.
Never trust a tall dwarf... he's lying about something.
Also have a dog who loves his kennel. I see nothing wrong with it. He comes out sure, but when he is tired, disgusted, has had enough people, etc etc. he goes in his kennel and he either sleeps or just watches us. He seems happy enough.
my Candy loves her crate. She goes to the dog room often just to lay down in it. It is her comfort zone. My Crystal is reserved with strangers, so she is much more comfortable in her crate when people are over. I give her a rawhide or porkhide chewy and she will stay in the for hours. It doesn't bother me if that is where they are happy great. Their doors are open and each one of my dogs know which crate is theirs.
