hi, our 9 month old cat (we've had her for 6 months) will not stay off the dinner table. at no time in her life with us has she been allowed on the table and all atempts at training her to stay off (shaking a can of nails, saying "off", misting her with water) have failed. does anyone know what to do about this?
Can she get up there by herself or is she using a chair to jump up? My Bailey insists that she belongs on the table too. She doesn't want anything. There's usually nothing interesting up there. She just wants to lay there. Fortunately she's a persian and they are not big jumpers so if I keep all of the chairs pushed all the way in she can't get up. She's also smart enough that she doesn't do it if I'm looking because she knows I will squirt her with the water bottle. Some cats just decide they are going to do things their way and nothing you do will discourage it. Sounds like you've tried all of the traditional ways to deter her already so if pushing the chairs in won't help, then I don't have any new ideas either.
My cat does the same thing. He will even jump up there and sleep! I just grab him off, tap his nose and say no and lay him somewhere else. If he keeps doing it over and over I finally put him out (most my cats ARE outside cats.) Eventuall mine gets the hint he aint allowed up there so he just stopped. If your cat is getting up someother way then just jumping like a chair; remove the object so she can no longer get up. Hope my advice worked! Good Luck!
Interesting...I never heard of a cat that couldn't/wouldn't jump. My cats can all jump from the floor to the kitchen counter to the top of the frig to the top of the kitchen cabinets! Makes no difference to me. After all, my house is already covered with dog/cat hair-why should my table be any different, lol!
The average dog is a nicer person than the average person.
Catlover it's true! Mine really don't jump and Allie can't even though she looks like she's thinking about it sometimes. She just misses the goal (splat!) and gives up. Perhaps some persians can but they are generally smaller cats with shorter back legs and are not known for athletic ability. They are mostly couch potatos. Bailey is a daredevil but even she needs a chair to get on the kitchen table. It's too high. Works for me because I'm not a fan of cat hair near my food or dishes. LOL
