my cat Toast has started pulling her fur out. while grooming she will literally bite her fur and pull it out. i have used a new flea medicine that is completely natural on her. i didn't think she would have a reaction to it, but that is the only thing i can think of. she is mostly pulling it out on her chest and joints. how can i get her to stop?
I would try giving her a bath in some hypoallergenic non perfumed shampoo to remove the flea stuff and see if she stops. Even an "all natural" formula can have things that she may be allergic to or irritated by. If a bath doesn't help, she should see the vet to check for medical problems.
my 3yr old male cat bites and pulls his hair out on hind legs and back. He was so bald and he used to be long haired. Ive heard that when pets fear their owner is stressed out they also get stressed out. And I have been very stressed out because I have many leaks in roof of our house and plumbing problems with the house. So I am very stressed out and he does notice this. Well ever since I learned of this I have tried to convince my that mommy is ok and he seems to believe me cuz his hair is now slowly growing back in. He looks much better. I also switched from cheap food to brand name to see if that helps too. He reacted better to my good mood then he did to expensive food.
Could be couple things. The best would be to go to a vet (preferably dermatologist)and rule out:Flea allergy, atopy, food allergy, mites. They should also rue out other underlying diseases (endocrine,...). The natural flea remedies usually don't work, in fact they may irritate your cat even more. The best is product called Revolution for cats- controll fleas and ear mites as well as heartworm and/or Frontline for fles and ticks. Can use anti-itch sprays that soothe the skin, can get in vet's office. If it is behavioral problem then u can use Feliway plug-ins that control all kinds of stress is harmless and cheap.
