As you can tell, I'm a pretty new member but had been lurking and reading posts for a couple months before joining because most of my breed specific (minpins) groups have been very quiet of late. I'm not very computer literate and, unfortunately, I also have a Mac computer which is not a Windows based system. Can anyone explain to me how to search the archives.
I'd also like info on the PM function, specifically if I check that box (which I didn't do when I joined), can I expect a bunch of crap ending up in my inbox or do people have to PM in regard to individual posts?
Hey, it's not unfortunate not to have a Windows-based computer! It's a good thing! All of mine run Linux, and I find it to be far superior to Windows.
What is unfortunate, though, is that there is no search function here. What a lot of people do is run a google search with the keyword you're looking for + terrificpets.com/forum .
The PM function, from my experience, doesn't cause a bunch of junk messages. It just gives someone an opportunity to say something to you without putting it out there on the public board. Here is an example of when I might use this feature: There is a post that is on a certain topic, say dog food, and a member posts about the dog food. I happen to notice the picture on their signature is of a really pretty dog and I wonder what kind of dog that is. I don't want to post, "hey Member, neat dog, what breed is it?" right in the middle of the post about dog food, so I might PM him and ask. Even being a moderator and asking all members to please PM me if they see anything that might need my attention, I don't get a crazy amount of PMs.
