My dog has a rash like symptom, he has many+ small 1/8th inch in diameter red scab spots on his back and head. It seems like they start as bumps and then develop into the scabby spot which he constantly licks/scratches.

Our current vet gave him prednisone, and supplimented with benedril because of prednisone being a steroid. My dog is obviously suffering, has anyone encountered this problem? I was looking online and found a thing called pemphigus - it does not look quite that serious but it could be that I suppose. The prednisone and benedril does not help the rash except to make my dog drowzy and dazed which stops the scratching but does not solve the root of the problem being large pimple like bumps that eventually turn into scabs. Please if anyone has encountered let me know I am pretty sure my vet is incompetent but we have not had success at others either. If you need a picture I can probably put one on some fileshare or something.

Sorry I don't know what that could be but if you are uncomfortable with your vet I'd keep looking until you found one that you were comfortable with. Would you take your child to a doctor you weren't sure about?

Sounds like a staph infection. Take your dog back to teh vet and have a skin scrape done to confirm; if so, the dog should be put on Simplief for at least 21 days.

Yes it could be staph, it could also be from a stray flea bite, it could be from allergies, and it could be mange.
Did your vet do a skin scraping to rule out a couple of those, and did he do a complete blood panel? I would stop the prednisone, stay with the benadryl, and look for a vet who knows dogs. How old is your dog, what breed, and what are you feeding him? I'd love to see a picture of him.
