Collar on or off when dog is in the crate for any length of time? I am not sure what the correct thing to do is. I have read that you should take collar off. Right now I am using the crate as a housebreaking tool so taking the collar on and off is difficult considering the dog is just getting use to wearing one.
I would never ever leave a collar on while they are in a crate. I have had problems with them having them on just in the house. Our little yorkie hates collars period, and got her bottom teeth stuck underneath her collar while trying to get it off. When Tina was younger she would chew on Mandy's collar and also got her teeth hung up in it and Mandy was just slinging her round and round. Thank God we were home. But I would leave the collar off if it were me in the kennel.
My sons wife had bought a choke collar and put it on his dog. They were outside and he went in the house to get something, he was inside for about 15 min. He heard the dog gasping when he got outside the dog had laid down on the deck and the ring of the collar went between the decking as was stuck. The dog was pulling to get up and choking himself. From that day his dogs do not wear collars. As for me I only put collars on the poms when they leave my property.
Pomeranians are like potatoe chips you cant have just one.
I have read of dogs getting their collars caught on the crate or cage. I read of one dog that forced its head and neck through the bottom of the door to the crate, the collar snagged and prevented the dog from pulling its head back in and it strangled from the pressure of the door frame and door as it kept trying to pull back.
