I have to 3yr old shih tzu, we have always live in apartments and he was used to pee on pee pee padson the carpet, now we just got a brand new house and I wanted him to keep using his pads but now on the tile on the laundry room, I put the pads in a piece of carpet so he dotn go crazy, well he doesn't want to do #1 or 2 there he go up the stairs to do it in the hallway carpet on the 2nd floor. This has been going for the past month and a half. I try punish him, taking him out, praise him when he does it on the pad or outside but he just wont do. I decided to give him up, is breaking my hear but I have to, this house cost me a lot and I can't him destroy it...
If you now live in a house, as opposed to an apartment building, why don't you just take the dog outdoors to relieve himself? Wouldn't that make more sense that getting rid of the dog, who has been your pet for 3 years?
Don't give him the option of going upstairs. He does not get the free run of the house until he is trustworthy. It only makes it worse. Be sure to clean that spot with an enzymatic cleaner so he doesn't smell his urine spots.
Then, start from scratch. Take him to his "spot" to potty every few hours. Just like you did when you first got him. It's the same process. Don't give him the run of the house until he is 100% trained. Praise him like mad when he does good, and catch him in the act 100% of the time when he does bad. Correct him and take him to his "spot". Repeat.
"Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else."
