my family is considering another dog, we have an ivory lab who is very much my hubbies dog, hunting and all but i want a "my dog". I dont want to purchase a puppy for probably another year at least, i just had another baby. But i want to put my time in researching breeds that will fit into our family. I have 4 kids (all girls ranging in age from 9 to newborn) i dont want a really small dog like a chi but dont want a "big" dog that will compete with the lab. I guess I am just wondering what peoples thoughts are on how a bullie would fit in with a family with children. We live on a lake in northern minnesota with 20 acres for the dogs and kids to run.
Every Bullie I've ever met has had a wonderful. sweet, laid back temperament. However, I am curious as to why you think another Lab would compete with your current dog? Labs are really not terribly stand-offish and are generally happy with others in their pack.
"Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful".
What type of "bullie" are you talking about? There are different breeds that are called this. Pit Bull is one that comes to mind, Bull Dog, Bull Terrier...I have Pit Bulls and a Rottweiler,,they are both excellent with my kids, my cats, and neihgbors. Very protective of the family, but would't hurt a fly. (ok,maybe a fly)
I'm with Pyr...Why are you concerned on the two competing? Are there already existing issues with your lab that makes you wonder how she/he would react to another?
sorry I wasnt very clear about the compete part. Hunter is a hunting dog through and through and we have had 2 hunting dogs together and they tend to get competitive and I want a "my dog" if I had another lab I think my hubby would steal it
