puppy bloody mucousy poop
Hey I have a puggle that i brought home 2 days ago and ever since he has had blood in his stool and it is mucousy. We changed his food from the original food he was getting and is it maybe because hs is stressed? Also we give him red treats and maybe this is the source of the redness?? PLEASE HELP!!!

Get your puppy to the vet...most likely this is a case of digestive problems due to food change or possibly coccidia from stress (not uncommon), but it's not something you should guess at. This pup needs to be put on medicine and a very bland diet (boiled hamburger/rice, boiled chicken/rice, etc.) until the digestive issues resolve.

VET NOW. anytime blood is in dog poop it can be a sign of the deadly disease parvovirus. Where'd you get your pup from? Had he had any of his vaccinations?

i got him from a breeder and he got his distemper vaccination which was his last one for uppy and he also got worming medicine to prevent worms so maybe the medicine is causing it

Get your dog to the vet ASAP!!!! Is he eating at all? Is he lethargic? It sounds like parvo which can be fatal...the virus causes severe dehydration. It is also very contagious so if it is parvo, you must clean everything he came in contact with with a bleach solution ( 1 part bleach to 9 parts water). And then talk to the breeder about paying for the medical expenses...

hey i called petsmart and they said it might be because he in a new home and nervous today there wasnt so much blood and yes he drinks and eats a lot and runs around in the backyard and doesnt even act like hes sick

please take your dog to the vet. This happend to my dog, he had his shots before i got him and was acting happy and energetic but low and behold he had a severe case of coccidia and girardia.

It can be a cause of multiple things. Parasites, parvovirus, just take the pup to a vet and have it seen. I doubt it is from switching food. Make sure you always mix old food with new food until puppy is adjusted. good luck.

2 - you're advised by EVERYONE to call the vet
3 - You don't do that, instead you call Petsmart!?!?!

I didn't know that Petsmart started employing vets or vet techs.

Call A vet, any VET - and bring your dog in. (which you should have done upon receiving your pup already ANYWAY) This isn't something to sit on the computer and spend time continously posting about. Your dog needs care NOW.

petsmart has vets in some locaitons or its more like the vets called banfield rent out from them and have vet centers in petsmart so thats who i called

It could really be a couple of different things it could be in a new place the stress and the red treats. Lay off the treats and see what that does. However it could be a sickness about 2 days after bringing home my new puppy she had loose stool and i took her to the vet and she had toxicitia (?)and hookworms so it is possibly it could be more than just stress. I know vets can be costly but it's to be expected w/ animals, you might even do payment plans. it's better to get the dog checked out if it doesnt clear in a couple of days wouldnt wait.

I am not a vet but I think whenever you have blood in a dog's stool, then it means an immediate trip to the vet. And you should bring the pup to a vet anyways when you bring him home. When you get a dog, you should always consider the costs involved, if that is why you haven't brought him to a vet yet. Get pet insurance but first GO TO A VET!!!

How old is the pup? Shots on a pup are not finished til they are 3-4 months old. Bloody stool is nothing to mess with. It could be stress related and it could be much worse, take him to the vet just to be safe. If it is an infectious disease the "breeder" should be notified, all of he other animals she has are in danger.
It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.

Your puppy most likly has coccida or giardia. Bring the puppy to vet or take fresh stool sample within within 3 hours of pup going. Ask vet to run for coccida and giardia.

My puppy is pooing some wormlike white things. Is that normal? He is just 6 weeks old

How old is the puppy? Usually when there is mucous in the stool, it's because of irritation and straining. What are these red treats? Try chunks of apples, or carrots. In any case, he could have anything from an upset stomach to parvo, so take him immediately to the vet. Let us know, what the outcome is.

That is what we were going through with Kayla (7mo. old yorkie) starting Friday nite. She was also vomiting. Took her in Saturday and they put her on antibotics and something for the vomiting, also a shot for the vomiting and she is fine. Like someone said it could be the food or changing foods. That is what was wrong with her. I didn't realize that they could have blood in their poop like that from food. Hope that is all yours is. Stay positive.
