I have been reading this form for a few days, and see that BYB have a really bad name. My question is if dog is AKC registered and puppies will be also, all test done (hips elbows, and such) whats wrong with a small breeder selling as pets, that can be registered. not just breeders selling for show.
In my oppinion, using the trem "BYB" is an extremely negative term implied for those breeders who are selling more for profit than for the benefit of the breed. They typically breed "designer" dogs or dogs that may/may not have been health tested. They do not care who the homes are or where the dogs end up in the end.
I believe your speaking of maybe a slight more responsible "Hobby Breeder" and the only problem I have with these breeders is ethics. In my oppinion by selling "pets" hobby breeders are just adding to the "pet" over-population in shelters. I believe a truly "responsible" hobby breeder would indeed health test along with provide spay/neuter for these pups. An added benefit would be to microchip the dogs back to them so that if placed in shelters/lost the pups would come back to them.
I save the term breeder to those individuals who provide/strive for service/show and the only pets they produce are the ones that perhaps have some type of flaw and are not able to show. The pup is then neutered/spayed and placed in a suitable "pet" home.
Again these are the ranking I place breeders in and may/may not reflect the oppinions of others. I have to admit that I am in rescue and am more partial to those responsible breeders who breed for service/show vs petsore, BYB's, or hobby breeders.
