my cat has decided to start peeing in the hallway outside the bathroom where her litter box is at. She still uses the litter box but also uses the corner in the hallway. I need to know how to get her to stop using the corner or my hubby will make me get rid of the cat. Please help
I dont want to put the cat box in the hallway because that is where my kids play. It is more of a "common area" then a hallway i guess between my 2 older childrens rooms. I am also afraid that if i move the cat box she will just find another place to pee. She needs to learn to use the cat box and the cat box only, I need to know how to teach her this
If a cat is peeing outside the litter box, but using the box to poop, potential causes would be-
1. a medical problem, such as a UTI or renal failure
2. prefers another location (which I think, from what you said, is your problem) If you can't put the litter pan in the hallway, find somewhere else to put it.
3. prefers a different type of litter. If using scented, try unscented. If using clay, try clumping, etc.
4. could also be anxiety or even marking behavior.
If I were you, I would take the cat to the vet just to rule out anything medical. If not that, you need to change something. If she always urinates in the same spot, I would say she obviously dislikes the location of the litter pan, or, dislikes the type of litter you use.
