Please help ... Destructive cat!
I've got a naughty cat who is destroying my home, and DH wants me to get rid of her. I just can't bear to do that, please help!

I have an almost 3 year old spayed female cat who lives indoors with two other cats (ages 10 and 4). She's always been on the naughty side, jumping on counters and scratching our carpets, but recently after bringing home our new baby it has gotten even worse. It is to the point that my husband would like to see her gone.

The most recent issue is that she has went under our bed and clawed out a hole in the box spring and hides out in there. After locking all the cats out of our room for a few days, we were able to put up barriers to block the holes and let the cats back in. Well she made NEW holes and was up there again last night.

Is there anything we can do? She is an indoor cat and we thought maybe she needs to be outside, but not sure if that is the answer. I really hate to have to find her another home, I'm not the kind of person who just gives pets away.

Any help is SOOOO appreciated!

Mabey You should put it outside once in a while and give it lots of toys and scratching posts. IF you catch Your cat scratching the couch or any other furnichure put a Scratching post in front of it so it will get the Idea. I hope it works

CatClyde, you really MUST be brain dead! You come on here and say you had a cat that got hit by a car and killed. And then you turn around and tell someone else to let their cat outside. You shouldn't even OWN any pets, because you obviously are not mature or smart enough to give them proper care.

Catlover,

That Cat was a Kitten and it was still suckling from its mother, if it was a full grown cat it probebly wouldint get run over.Cats are independent animals I said put it outside "ONE" in a while not "always". You are angery about somthing I said one arnt you.The result of keeping a Cat inside "always" makes it uncontrolable. Even you would get a little wild if you were locked inside "all" the time. I will bet the IQ of a dozen "Catlovers would be twelve

SO....let's see if I have this straight: the championship speller over here is making comments about Catlover's IQ????? At least Catlover is over the AGE of 12 and actually has more intelligent advice for people than to tell them to put an indoor cat outside. No cat that is used to being indoors should ever be introduced to the outside world and they will never miss it. Mine would be terrified. My neighbor's indoor cat got out and froze to death this winter before they could rescue him because he ran from any strangers that tried to help him. I certainly hope that nobody new to this forum ever takes advice from CatClyde or they will have a bunch of un-neutered cats making unwanted babies that run around being hit by cars. If the kitten was that small, it should never have been left outside to look after itself. That is so irresponsible.

First, I am much older than a twelve year old. Second, my DAD cept the kitten outside and I have lived with cats for a long time AND we have THREE cats, that is enough experiance for me to know alot about cats.Who cares about my spelling. Yes I admit that I dont want Cats neutered BUT I am proud of it. Have you found the hole on your head where your Brain is soposed to be yet?LOL

I know what this feels like, because I've had the same problem. I had to keep the bedroom doors shut, as well as the bathroom door, because of the various acts of destruction. I finally realized the wisdom of using a spray bottle, buying a cat tower, actually now two, and providing the cat with some outdoor supervised playing.
I also stopped them from jumping on the counters with the spray bottle, and tin foil.
There are also various repellants on the market that don't smell too good to cats, I used those as well. I've only given one cat away, that I just could'nt handle, and that was to my son.
It was'nt that she was bad, she had a habit of climbing up my body, and sucking on any part of my face that she could latch on to.
I tried everything, and it would have meant physically removing her and locking her in another room or cage, to stop her, and I did'nt find that a good solution. The weird thing is that at my son's she never once tried doing that to him. When I go to visit though, she heads straight for my neck.

CatClyde-I have many cats inside,and not ONE of them is "uncontrolable". And leaving a cat outside "just one time" IS enough to get it killed. You obviously should have learned about the danger of cars (although, I see you didn't) There is also the risk of being attacked by other animals, getting poisoned, etc.

Have you ever even BEEN to a shelter? Do you realize how many homeless cats are out there in shelters waiting to be adopted? How many feral cats are out there, spreading diseases around, like feline leukemia and feline AIDS? But I guess you don't care about that...

Lets not get nasty with eachother, there are as much risks of letting cats outside as there are letting us outside.Cats can get used to the outsides rather fast. What Poisoning? there is also "poisoning" stuff in the house too. Cats can get run over but so can humans, Squirls can get run over, Birds can get run over, and dogs can get run over. Cats are fast animals so that if they are attacked they can simply run away or hide and it is not like cats are wimpy animals.

CatClyde, you are a total idiot! You come on here and say your cat got run over by a car. But that's ok-he could have run if he didn't really want to get killed, I guess.

Have you ever seen the results of a cat that was attacked by a dog? They can't always run away. They can get attacked by wild animals-fox and coyote, among others. They can get poisoned by a neighbor who is annoyed that you let your cat out and the cat always goes in his yard. They can get caught in a trap and die a slow, painful death.

I can assure you that there are no predators in my house waiting to attack any of my cats. There is no poison sitting out waiting for them to get into. They aren't going to get leukemia or AIDS or distemper or any other disease, because they AREN'T EXPOSED TO IT!

What planet are you from, anyway? It is our job to take care of our pets. If you can't handle the responsibility, DON'T HAVE ANY PETS!!! Better yet-why don't YOU go play in the traffic? Let's see if you can run faster than a car.

cranky neighbors trying to poison animals? Since when does THAT happen.[mabey in your imagination]All my cats live outside and they have NOT bean killed by other animals. What do you mean they cant run away? they have legs, and fast ones at that.

I am very responcible for my pets and I plan to own them for as long as I live. Period

Catclyde-you must ride the short bus to school. Yes, people DO poison cats, both intentionally and unintentionally. Cats DO get killed by dogs and other animals, and cats DO get hit by cars. It's obvious you haven't made that trip to the shelter yet (or ever talked to a vet or ever read a book, for that matter....)

Cat Clyde - It is good that you don't have cranky neighbors. Cranky neighbors frequently do harm unto their neighbors pets. Especially when their neighbors pets are allowed to run wild onto THEIR property. Nikki's crazy aunt bought one of those high pitch sound devices and when her neighbors are gone and the dogs are out, she will stand next to their fence and sound it whenever they bark. A woman on the TP board not to long ago (unless it was a ancient post revived) wrote about how her neighbor had trapped 3 of her indoor/outdoor cats and drove them into the country to dispose of. She didnt catch on until she heard the 4th one crying from inside the trap next door, if I recall. I ended a friendship in elementary school when, after spending the night at this girls home, I witnessed her father take his shotgun to a new mother cat and her kittens; his neighbor had been feeding them and not spaying them and the man was tired of the feral cats coming onto his property. In town, it has happened a number of times where a neighbor sets out antifreeze in the yard because the animals are annoying or seen as a threat.

Sure, there are a FEW people who poison animals BUT there are also Theives, murderers, and other bad people, there are CONSTANTLY dangers in life that we and our pets HAVE to face.

Hmm...I see your point Maxpup. Similar but I don't think they are the same group. Opie and Daisy seem to have gotten bored and moved on. Opie could spell, but Daisy couldn't form words and sentences even as well as CatClyde. Those two were just out to annoy and may very well have been friends if they were not the same person using different computers. They all get bored eventually. As long as nobody new comes along and takes their advice seriously, we just need to be patient. What happened to JerryLewis? The moderators must have zapped her.

lock in a room for a few days with food and water and a litter box. make sure nothing is in the room not even a bed. see if that will make her quit
