My 4 month old english bullie goes on a biting rampage and we can't make him stop. He has his chewing toys and all but he wants to nible on us too. I know it's critical that we teach him that it is not ok to bite us especially at this age. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to dicipline my puppy?
my dog does this too. I have talked to my trainer and she had me try walking away and ignoring him whn he bites us but it's not working. I am going to talk to her tomorrow at class, i will see what she says and let you know! I am also open to suggestions from others also!
Awesome bully! Tucker gave you that huh? Is that the Reverse brindle? Anyways, if you can... I hold my bully's mouth shut and say "No!" in a low deep voice; Or while he's biting you... yell loudly "Ouch, Ow!" But don't give him a toy to chew after he stops biting you.
Maybe he's hungry or wants attention too. I train my bully to speak when hungry and to paw at my leg when he wants to play.
Foul tasting things like bitter apple spray, Tabasco sauce or lemon juice rubbed on objects is also a technique.
Remember to keep things up high out of reach of those pointy little needles. If your house is not "puppy proof" I recommend a baby gated safe area, an xpened area or a crate in those moments it is not possible to supervise your new dog.
The mouthing thing is a no go for me. My bully's teeth will slash you just by grazing them accidently.
I'm sure he (your bulldog) will learn quickly. I've taught not to bite anywhere from the the first instance to 6 weeks. You should interact with the dog first, no kids (except for the occasional pat on the head)...
Thank you guys for all your suggestions I'll be sure to try all of them.
Monstarr unfortunately the bulldog you see is not my 4 month old. That is my baby girl who past away two weeks ago. She is and will always be my baby and I miss her terribly. I learned a valuable lesson unfortunately too late. Never take your bully to the groomer's. My baby died because of negligence :(
Awe Man!, I'm sorry. She looks exactly like this bulldog I saw from a litter my bully came from. Those avatar's are so small though, I didn't notice the white sock. She definitely looked like a good looking bully. Shoot, just thinking about it makes me miss her too and that's from the avatar I've see.
Groomers...? Harumphff! I think most over charge and man handle dogs. Long ago when I just wanted to see some of the techniques used to groom a dog so that I could later do it myself; I grabbed this lady's hand and heard all of her knuckles crack as I was telling her to never touch my dog like that again. Glancing outside for a second, I turned to see her Q-tipping my dogs ears out, I swear she was holding one end of the q-tip inside one ear and the other end of the q-tip was moving and showing all the way through to the other ear. dog Shows are better to learn how to groom I think. No tip; And never went again. Still, the small mom&pop shops seem to do well, and treat dogs better.
I have tried holding my dogs mouth, saying firm "no" and walking away but he still bites. We even have that apple bitter spray that we spray on our hands. he tends to want to bite when we pet him. I really don't know what else to try for him. Hopefully the trainer knows:(
