HELP!!! We went on vacation and while we were away, our puppy was with a friend. I believe he ended up eating adult dog food. Now he will not eat his puppy food. he is only 10 weeks old. He is looking skinny. Should I be worried? Or will he finally eat when he gets hungry enough. It has been 3 days now and he is eating minimal amounts. Not even 1 cup a day. He weighs 13 pounds now. Any suggestions. Thanks
There are some people who recommend that a puppy eat only "puppy food" and others who say as long as the nutritional value and protein levels are there it's ok. to feed adult food. I actually only fed "puppy food" until my puppy was 3 or 4 months old. Now he is on Canidae All life stages, along with my three other dogs. (He's 6 months old)
It might also have been "better" tasting to him, and that is why he doesn't want to eat so much, but it seems to me like he is eating enough to sustain himself. Although I'm not a vet. If it continues for too many days (use your judgement) I would contact your vet to rule out any medical problems.
He is a lab/mix. I just got back from vacation on Sunday. I took him to the vet on Monday for his second set of vaccinations. The vet said he looked good. He is still active/happy/playful, but like I said barely eating. I would say at the most it is 3/4 cup a day. I just fed him a puppy biscuit for going outside to go potty and he swallowed it whole....yikes...he acted like he was starving.
he is on puppy chow. He had been on it before we went on vacation with no problems at all. In fact he was eating 2 cups a day at least. Now, he doesn't eat and is acting starved. I am afraid to change brands because he is also occasionally having looser stools. I am going to have to call the vet tomorrow I think. Like I said he was just at the vet on Mon. and had a clean bill of health...
I talked with the vet today and they said to mix 2 tablespoons of puppy canned food with his food and see if it helps him tonight. If he doesn't eat it we will have to take him back into the vet tomorrow..just thought I would keep ya posted..thanks for the advice.
