We have a 7 month old Boston that is scheduled to be neutered in a few weeks. Our vet offered some options for the surgery and while money is no object when it comes to the health and safety of our little guy, I certainly don't want to throw it away unnecessarily. When you neutered your dog, did you do any of the following and what are your thoughts?
Pre-surgical bloodwork Laser surgery IV catheter for emergency med administration EKG monitoring
All of those procedures are fine, but not absolutely necessary. Any time an animal undergoes surgery, an I.V is a good idea, and so is cardiac monitoring.Pre-surgery blood work is always a good idea. My vet does'nt do laser surgery, and yet after each neutering, all of my dogs are feisty and behaving as thought nothing happened. Your dog will be fine, you will be more nervous than he is. The most annoying thing to a dog that has just been neutered, is wearing those darn Elizabethan collars, which they hate. Good luck and let us know the outcome.
My 6 month old shih-tzu was neutered earlier this week, and I paid $125.00 total( we live in SoCal). I was not asked about any of these options. The $125 covered everything. It sounds like your vet may be trying to "up-sell". My pup is recovering nicely and was immediately running and leaping all over the house the day after the surgery. He's totally fine.
