Hello I am adopting a Himalayan kitten and I have a couple of questions. What is the best automatic litter box? Also the best kind of litter to use with a long hair breed? And if any one can offer any general information on Himalayans. Thank you
You can't use an automatic litterbox until they are at least 6 months old. And I was not happy with mine even after that. The stupid rake just makes a mess and scrapes the clumps into scraps and can get loose poop stuck to it. I would suggest a small low sided uncovered box to start until the baby gets a bit bigger. And you should use whatever litter the breeder is using at first so the kitten can adjust to the new surroundings. I am using Tidy cats multi cat in the turquoise label bucket now and it's working well. But as each one came home as a baby they had Feline Pine because that's what they were trained on. Put the box someplace quiet and private but make sure he/she knows where to find it. One of my girls had trouble with stairs because she was so tiny so I had to have one on each level of my house for a while. Be prepared for some little accidents with poo stuck to the butt fur at first. The long hair is beautiful but it gets in the way. I have 2 Persians and a Himalayan (all under a year old and all were 8 weeks old when I got them) They can get a tummy upset from changes in food and stress from the move to a new home. I have had to wash off their butts numerous times. (Just warm water and I use human baby shampoo). Feel free to ask me anything. Having three of them in the last 8 months I have probably experienced just about anything!
