I think Tinker has a problem and I dont know if its because he is lazy or if he needs a check up. He has wet the bed 3 times in the past 2 weeks. Yes its gross but I dont think he really knows he is doing it. He is fairly well crate trained and doesntgo in there at least that I know of. He generally sleeps all through the night and I take him out first thing and away we go. I know how to posssibly prevent it by taking up the water after a certain time at night but do you think he may have a bladder problem like an infection or something? Has anyone else ever had a bed wetter. I want to get a belly band for him too, there are places on the internet that makes them especially for IG's and Crested type breeds.
My 17 year old maltipoo recently started to wet the bed. But he does have Kidney Disease, and I think it may be related. We are seeing the vet in April and will discuss it then.
I made him several belly bands and put a night time sanitary napkin in it. It works wonders. Toby used to wake up so sad and embarrassed that he had wet the bet. About two weeks ago, we spent an afternoon watching a movie and he was completely sound asleep and all of a sudden I could smell urine, I looked over and sure enough, while he was soundly asleep he had urinated.
I don't think he's lazy. I just think it has to do with his age and condition.
If you are able to get your dog a belly band I'm sure that it will be great for all of you, but I would definitely have him checked out by a vet.
I believe that the term is called incontinence. It happens frequently in older dogs; however it can also happen in younger dogs as well. Sometimes when a dog is spayed or neutered they will wet and not mean to. Many times they will feel guilty about going, because they couldn’t hold it. There is a medication out that your vet could recommend for it. It seems to work very well. I cannot recall the name of it, but I am sure that your vet will know. Good luck!!
I bought belly bands for my Japanese Chin at one of the national mall pet stores. They sell them in different sizes.
While my Japanese Chin doesn't wet the bed, he will lift his leg and try to mark his Grandma's couch when I bring him there. She has 2 females, they are fixed, but he still must feel the need to mark his territory.
The belly bands work great, no more mess on Grandma's furniture and Tyke can remain an important part of the family.
He is just a pup, 8 months old so its not an age issue but he did just get nuetered a month ago so maybe that has something to do with it, it has been slow to heal. Not infected or anything but just slow. Perhaps there is some inflamation somewhere. I will have to ask them about it and make an appointment. I will order a belly band too, I have looked into the ones at the stores and the IG's are built so differently they often dont fit correctly. They have very pinched up waists and they slide around really bad.
