last night my dog delivery 10 puppies. but I hear it will not be possible all of them to live. does anybody knows how I can succide to keep them alive? I share them in 2 teams,of 5 puppies, and I let each team for 2 hours with the mother. it is right what i am doing? what else I can do?
Why do you think it isn't possible for them all to live? Last week I had a litter of 13 and they are all doing great. You just have to keep an eye on them round the clock for a few days and make sure the smaller ones are allowed to nurse more frequently than the larger, fat puppies.
Gently pinch the skin on the back (scruff) of their neck, if it doesn't bounce back-- if it sticks up after you release, that shows dehydration. You may need to supplement dehydrated puppies with puppy milk replacer-- puppies the first few days really need the colostrum from the mothers milk though, so you really should still keep them nursing as much as possible.
Good luck. It can be more or less difficult to keep that many alive depending on if the mother is good and can handle that many.
