I am getting a horse next year. I have been told to go the tack auction to get my tack. I know i will need lots of things.Can anyone think of anything else i need. Yes I do have a place to put it. My cousin has 17 acres and said it is more then welcome at her house. I am going to pay her a boarding fee she just dont know it yet lol.

A good horse vet, start asking around now.

Also saddle accesories that dont always come with the saddle and usually if they do they arent the best such a girth, somtimes saddles will come with an so so one on it but I recomend a neoprene one. If you want other things to such as saddle blanket, saddle soap and oils.

i have been with horses for about 30years..you need a good halter..a blanket to cover them when it gets cold..if you are where it is freezing you will need a bucket with a heater to keep the water melted...get a good sturdy lounge line for lounging your horse..It makes a world of difference if you lounge them for just ten minutes before saddling and bridling them to ride..We use to call it getting the quirks out of there system..LOL
any questions that you feel you need answered just feel free to ask..I admire the fact that you are asking questions BEFORE you get the horse...good thinking on your part...And when you go to get a horse...check out us rescues first..we have some really awesome horses that we have saved from slaughter and have given them another chance at life...Just a thought..

Thanks I hadnt thought of a lot of those things. The horse is coming from the auction. My cousin's Husband breaks horses and said he would break it for me. He has had horses for his whole life and is going to help me pick a horse out also

If the horse has high withers, make sure you get a riser pad

>horse treats
>grain
>person to bring your hay monthly
>horse shampoo
>sweat scraper
>fly spray(very important)
>mane and tail detangler
>2 halters
>2 leads
>salt licker
>farrier
>possibly a martingale or a breast collar(if saddle slips)
>stall mats
>a hoof polish (to maintain healthy and shiny hoofs)
>horse boots(if the horse hits it's feet together while jumping etc. , you put boots on it's legs for protection, or he could go lame)

>baby wipes(used for cleaning out the ears, and nose, or else they will get very dry and dirty)

>horse feed supplements(to help with shiny coat and health)

theirs so much more to get, but if I think of anything else I'll let you know.

What breed od horse is he/she, because you can tell me and I'll let you know wether or not you need boots for the horse and a riser pad, it could become important.

You could also get a bareback pad if you want to ride bareback.

I hope you have someone with experiance help you. If you are posting this question, I am going to assume you have never been around a horse before. You might want to reconsider after some riding lessons or camp. Horse are very expensive, and can be very dangerous. Since you are getting your horse from an auction, you have no idea what you are buying. some are good, some can be bad. You stated you cousin is breaking the horse for you, I hope he is doing alot more then that if you have little experiance with horses. I used to rebreak abused horses, and ended up on my butt plenty of times. I am lucky I didn't break anything my self, you need to consider that. I just hope you plan of giving this animal a good home, and that this is not a fad or somthing that sounds like fun. Horse can live 30yrs, and you cant just throw them away. I am done preaching, so here is your list

I would just get a really broke horse, or have a horse trainer come with you to the auction. and it doesnt hurt to look online fer everything you need for a horse.
but to be honest it sounds like you arent ready for a horse. i was 12 when i got my first horse and he was a 20hh percheron. ive had three horses already and im only 14 now. how old are you???!!!???

At the very least a horse needs:

* Pasture free from hazards such as holes, rusty farm machinery and loose wire fences.

* Safe fencing such as wooden, plastic, or vinyl rails, or mesh wire fencing.

* Grass for grazing or equivalent amount of good quality hay.

* Unlimited supply of fresh clean water, heated if necessary in sub-freezing temperatures.

* Unlimited access to minerals and salt.

* Shelter from wet or wintry weather and shade in summer.

* A dry clean area to lie down.

* Daily monitoring for injury or illness.

* Companionship, either with another horse, donkey, mule or pony or
another animal such as a sheep or goat.

One thing you might wanna do is check you property for any thing potentially hazardous to the horses health, like poisonious things EX< black walnut trees are poisonous to horses and it really depends on the horses allergys we have 3 and all react differently to different things as bee stings, bad hay, worms they all react differently so make sure you know the horses more severe allergies if it has any... good luck to you though

When you ride your horse make sure you ride it atleast 4 times a week.

if you are putting you horse in a show then you have to practice all of the time and make sure you have time with your horse and love them, take it from me.. I own 10 horses and im training 12.

you need time for them..

Make sure you r well prepared for this horse make sure it has a shelter where it can get out of the bugs and to cut down on worck get round bales then you dont have to get someone to feed it every morning/night etc. And dont get a saddle untill u get the horse cause u buy the saddle to fit the horse not the other way around.

in my opinion you ARE NOT ready for a horse..u need to do research and A LOT of it!..i was lucky enough to have a grandpa that has horses for over 50 years.....so i have had over 20-30 horses in my lifetime and im only 14
