We are bringing home an 8 week old kitten who is littered trained. However we have a different type of litter box then she is using now. How should we go about introducing her and getting her to use our litter box? (she is currently using a regular box we have a litter-robot} Thank you
I would start her out with the kind of litter box that she is used to and the same type of litter the breeder is using. You can get small kitten sized plastic boxes for about $1.50 at Wal Mart to use temporarily. Place that litterbox where you would like her to learn to go for at least a week until you see that she understands and is using it regularly. Then replace it with the new one in the exact same place. You might even try scooping some of her feces into the new box (Litter Robot? I never heard of that type) so she will smell it and recognize it as the new place to go potty. Be patient. If she doesn't get it right away, you may need to use the regular litterbox a little longer. Eight weeks is a really tiny baby and she may be scared to go into the other one for a little while.
In the process of trying to figure out what exactly a litter robot is, I found the following website with a forum of people who have it that might be helpful to you. www.litterbox-central.com/forum I have to say that is a LOT of money for a litterbox and it seems like something my cats would be afraid of. Good luck! I also read that you should not use it on the automatic setting until the cat reaches 5 pounds. So you will need to keep it turned off and then just turn it on to cycle with you there to watch it. (PS- verrrrry boring day at work in case you wonder why I have nothing better to do than research litterboxes)
