o runner, i am so sorry to hear your unfortunate news. i can empathise with what you are going through. as i was growing up, my family cat had a run in with a dog and in the process her retina was severly damaged. we had to rush her to the vet for emergency surgical removal of the eye. i thought it was going to be the end of her and ruin her way of life as she knew it. well after a few weeks recoverey (keeping her contained to one room and not allowing her to jump up or down on anything until fully healed) she was back to normal without ever skipping a beat! i honesly think all animals are fighters and more resiliant than you'd think. they adapt quickly and without much delay. the important thing is that they have a loving family and thats all that really matters. its hard not to worry, but in the end you'll see that life will continue as normal, she'll just look a little different! keep posting with updates....what breed is she? how old?
We did have a stray cat show up that had a severe eye infection which required removal of the eye. He did very well, adjusted very fast to it. Pain wise, he didnt show many signs of pain, though we did bring him home on medication for pain.
People are like slinky's, not really good for much. But its still fun to push them down the stairs.
i can definately relate. Growing up, our Lhasa Apso had lost an eye being brave and trying to ward off a racoon. He was able to adapt quickly and after a while you couldnt even tell that he was missing an eye. He could run and play with the best of them. He live a long & happy life.
Wow. I feel for you runner, I've never had a pet lose an eye so I don't know how it feels but I know that I would love my puppy the same w/ or w/out her eyes. I'll be praying for you and your baby, I hope everything goes well!
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. -Phil. 4:13
She'll do just great, Runner. We'd hate to lose an eye ourselves because we'd be so worried about how we'd look. Dogs don't give a crap about that. It's in case something happens to one of our eyes, this is why Nature gave us two.
I just imagined your baby wearing a little pirate costume next Halloween. She looks adorable.

I am so sorry. I know how much that must hurt to see your baby go through that. One thing about it, you still have her. She will cope real well. Animals just have a way of doing so. I remember when we first realized that Max was deaf from the diabetes. I think they handle things sometimes better than we do. She'll be fine.
Runner, I bought a beautiful female Parson(Jack)Russell terrier as a show/breeding prospect. She was to be my next Champion to special. She was injured at a young age and lost an eye. But still went on to gain an AKC champion title. We are working on her earthdog title this spring. She is still beautiful to me and a great example of the breed. She has produced outstanding puppies who will carry on in the show ring where she left off.
He's your friend, your partner, your defender your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to worthy of such devotion
im sorry for your loss. im positive your baby will do just fine! my dad had one of his eyes removed due to cancer, and he can do everything normal. the only thing that is different is the depth perception, other than that he will adjust to it fast. good luck in the future.
Chewie, our Pet Chihuahua Dog had gotten bit by a big dog and his eye was hanging out, very gross i know, but, they stitched his eye back in after a rush down to the animal hospital. ALmost $700 dollars later, a cone, and lots of love we hoped we could save his eye. The eye muscle was torn. He finally got his stitches out, after 10 days, and he seemed to be running around and playing, but his eye just seems to be getting worse. Theres is no puss or infection, but it look as if hes gone blind in his eye. Im not sure what to do but to let nature take course. Chihuahuas can be a pain, little yelping dogs and puppy pad training is really hard, but they have big hearts, they give lots of love. Im not sure but i think Chewie might lose his eye, but I know, he will do good, with one eye, since his mom and dad, and 5 kids here and 4 siamese cats and a 13 yr old Lab mix, named Dino is here to play with are here to help him through it.
To Continue...My 13yr old Lab/Mix name is Dino, When he was 7yrs old. it was the Day after my-B Day, when Dino and I was in a major accident. I was walking Dino to the convenient store, to make a phone call using the outside telephone booth like i would do quite frequently. So i would tie Dino like always around a tiny pole away from roads, and in a very safe place. I used the phone, and he would sit nicely and wait for me like a usual routine until the day after my birthday. 2 Cars Collided on a freak accident and struck me, in the booth, it knocked me and the phone booth six feet in the air and the phone booth came crashing down on Dinos Tail. I was hospitalized, with almost a broken neck, screwed up neck and back, doctors and police were amazed im still alive. Dino had his tail wounded, after 3 months with a cone and a muzzle to stop him from chewing at the wound on his tail, he had manage to chew about 4 inches of his tail off. He Was ready to die. He went to lay outside under a car soo very weak It was 3am in the morning and no Animal Hospital near by,(Go Figure). Dino lost about 85% blood loss and my room was covered in his blood. I immediatly tied his tail off to stop the blood, rushed him to the vets first thing in the mornin. Lots of money later, they rushed puppy blood to him, and saved his life. What a tragedy to happen I know, but I wanted to share my story to show how pets are alot smarter than we know, it was Dinos instinct to chew off his tail cuz it was a problem to him, he knew it. It was a big fight all before he lost his tail to try to save it. Nothing I could have done. 6 Years Later I still spend everyday with my Soul Companion, we both are fighters, im still injured today, with back and neck problems, Dino has many Yrs left by my side. Priceless.
