Unfortunately, I understand your situation all too well. My boyfriend hates my cats and has tried to give me the ultimatum to choose between them and him. I love him AND them sooooo much that it was an impossible decision to make. So I managed to get him to compromise. Luckily he's a carpenter and he built my kitties a wonderful large insulated shed-type of enclosure that has a big outdoor area that is enclosed by chicken wire. That way he doesn't have to deal with them and vice versa ;). If something like that isn't possible, maybe your boyfriend would be o.k. with only letting your kitties into part of your house. If you have a way of closing part of it off from the rest of it that is. Ask him if he has any ideas on how you could compromise. If he really loves you he will try. Good luck with everything!
Second, they start telling you what to do--starting small and then going on to bigger things. What are they going to tell you next?
Third, you aren't married and they could kick you out any time. This guy doesn't seem too committed to you. He certainly doesn't want to compromise about your pet.
Fourth, it seems that the house is THEIRS but not YOURS. This is not a good situation for your self esteem.
Me, I'd move back in with Mom and save up for your own place. Get a girl roomie if you must, but choose a place that you BOTH like that will allow pets. Make sure that the roomie and/or landlord is okay with the pets BEFORE you move in.
Make sure that you and anyone you live with are on the same page about chores, pets, sharing food, who pays the bills, how loud the tv/music can be, etc. etc.
Good luck. I wouldn't want to be twenty again for anything in the world. Just know that it won't last forever. You'll eventually be an old lady who gets to do anything she wants.
First of all..what kind of man would ask you to give up something you love that much? I say get out of that situation b4 he starts telling you what to wear & who to hang out with. How could you possibly give up your cat for such a douche? You took his baggage & he made you get rid of yours. Thx god you don't have any human kids.
For me, a pet becomes one of the closest people in your family. If I had to get rid of a pet I would be devastated. I would stay with the pet and leave the boyfriend. A pet is like a child, if you had a boyfriend you really liked, would you give up your child for him?!?!
If you think dogs cant count, try putting 3 dog biscuits in your pocket and only giving him 2
I know you might love him, but you should break up with him. I have a 1 year old cat (Oreo) and a kitten whos birthday was today (Peanut) and I used to have 5 cats, but my girls are princesses to me. So if I was stuck in that horrible sitch, I would find a guy who adores cats, loves to have you around, and there you go!
I would have never moved in with anyone that would have required me to leave my beloved pets behind. Now he is issuing the no future pets warning ? Um no no. Pack your bags and go home to your kitty, who doesnt put restrictions on your life.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
I have good news. He finally agreed to try and have my cat. If his allergies are too much, obviously, it's torture, but at least he's gonna try now! Thanks much for your very gracious and kind concern! <3 <3 <3
