My cat who is like a year and a half old urinated today and my mother said she seen something moving in the litter box. there was no poopin that occured? can worms be in the urine? she was dewormed last year but can it come back?
There will be no worms in the urine, but perhaps she has a tape worm and the tape worm became detached from the rectum. How big was the worm? Tape worms are usually the length of a grain of rice/or an inch. It if was bigger, probably round worm. Even if your cat is kept indoors, it can ingest a flea, in turn getting worms.
Depending on what your vet gave your cat last year. If it was a product called Strongid. A yellowish liquid. Strongid needs to be given in at least two to three doses. Strongid will only kill the live worms, does not kill the eggs. Then ten days the eggs hatch, and another round of worms, so another dose needs to be given. I have given up to four doses in really infested kitties. Also strongid will not kill a tapeworm. Please take a stool sample to your vet for proper identification of the parasite, and they can give you the proper med. Anything you buy at grocery stores/pet stores are no good. You really waste your money on those. A prescription item is the best way to be rid of the parasites. Hope this helps.
