The poor animals. Sometimes I feel like I am a hoarder with the 6 dogs and 6 cats that I have. I would like to take more but just cant. I dont know how anyone could get up to a number of 800 animals. How did they feed them?
That's a mind boggling number of dogs to feed, if you do the math on the food alone, it's nuts. I can actually see something like this happening, and the old people just getting over-run, but geez. Thank God they were found.
I can't even quite wrap my mind around the 82 parrots, never mind 800 dogs. My sister looked at me like I had lost my mind when I said I was thinking of a 4th cat in my condo along with my one large dog. Those poor dogs! You know they won't find homes for that many dogs. Especially the ones missing paws. And if they were selling them, why is the lady with the chihuahua the first one to notice it was a problem and report them? OMG!
I'm in Arizona. All of these dogs except for those with medical issues, and those with puppies. The humane society was overrun with over 400 people the first day they went up for adoption. Because of fighting between those waiting (physical) the police were called to the facility. A spay and neuter program for pits was canceled. They had to close down and give out lottery tickets. They allowed 100 people a day thereafter to come back and get a dog. The animal control facilities down here are full of 50% pits, 30% chihuahuas. I find it so incredibly maddening that all the dogs that are at animal control are still there and haven't even been considered!!!! Also that a program that could prevent more unwanted dogs was canceled and hasn't been rescheduled!
It is unbelievable to me that this occurred but what is even more unbelievable is the report that I read that the individuals who horded 800 dogs (and 82 parrots) are not facing charges. Look, they may have just gotten "overwhelmed" as they claim, though I find that very hard to believe they weren't able to stop themselves before it reached 800 dogs. But they were selling some of the dogs. Why isn't this being considered a puppy mill? How are they not facing charges?
If the authorities didn't step in when they did, these people who have had a lot more than 800 because dogs were giving birth while on their way to shelters. It is completely unbelievable!
