My 10 month old Saint, Chunky, had surgery Monday and they discovered that her intestine has basically telescoped into itself. They could not pull it apart and had to remove about 36" of it. We brought her home Wednesday and she continues to do well, gained 6 pounds in 4 days! They think the whipworms that she had caused dirrhea which caused this condition. Now that she has less intestine for food to go through we have to have her on a low fat high fiber dog food. Any suggestions??
Have you tried a raw diet? The good dog food companies make the kind of food you're looking for, hopefully you're close by a good one. You could also cook for your dog, with a mixture of long rain brown rice, very lean meat, and vegetables. I would feed her small meals about 4 times a day. Good luck with her.
One thing I don't understand is that the vet said high fiber, low fat. Well the Hill ID only has 1.5% fiber and the Diamond Puppy has I think 3% fiber. She said I can supplement with flax to increase the fiber but I'm confused.
