My cat patches is about 10 years old now. I have never had any problems with her using the litter pan in the past. Just over the last 4 or 5 months, she has started standing up while she is still going and she is getting pee all over the floor every time she goes! I thought I could solve the problem by getting a covered pan for her but when I set it up she just wouldnt go in and instead she peed all over my daughters bed. I just dont know what to do about her anymore. If anyone could tell me what is going on with her or what I could do to solve this problem please let me know, Thanks
Yes, I agree. At 10 years of age, your cat is approaching her senior years. If not a UTI or renal failure, it's quite possible she is developing arthritis. It could be harder for her to get in and out of the litter pan, or it could be harder for her to squat down. What you could do is get a larger pan, but not as deep. That will make it easier for her to get in and out, and give her a larger target to hit!
Another thing you could try is, changing the litter. It's possible that she doesn't like either the location of the litter pan, or the type of litter you are using. But a trip to the vet is definately in order to first rule out a medical problem.
