This evening walking my Lab around the block, we got not more than a few minutes out and he started stopping to lick his back feet. We live in Northern Michigan and it's still cold. There some pavement showing + snow and ice. We walk frequently and have most of the winter, this is the first time he's done something like. We've been home now for 15 minutes and sitting around still licking. At the paws and also further up by the 'ankle'.
Does your city or citizens use salt on the ice? If so, that's likely it. It is NOT good for doggy paws. Can really burn them, although mine is OK to walk on it. Try rinsing the feet in water when you get home from salty walks. or use boots!
