I recently became the proud owner of a pug. My sons girlfriend bought him one. This is a breed that I don't know much about but am trying to do some research to learn. My problem, He sheds so much! Is there anything to prevent or make this not so much a problem? Someone said to mix vegetable oil in his food , Is this true? Any advice comments I am grateful for. Thanks
Hate to be the bearer of bad news...but..they are notorious for this. Our Pug sheds more than our wooly Malamute...same quantity of hair. They have a double coat and it just keeps on coming out! We feed her Canidae, but it hasn't affected her shedding. I have been trying the cold-pressed flaxseed oil + Omega 3 oils that were supposed to help for close to a month and haven't seen an improvement so far-still hoping. I did buy an awesome tool called a FURMINATOR though, and that has made a BIG difference. We have to furminate her every day, but if we do, it keeps the shedding to a minimum. It works far better than any of the multitude of other shedding tools I have purchased. It is pricey-close to $30, but worth every penny.
There is no hope for a shedding pug!! I have 2 and I have a friend who has 5. I buy the best for food for them (Evo red meat diet). Thats just how they are, welcome to pug life!!! The fawn colors have 2 coats, the black ones however have only ne but they still shed just as much. No matter how much your brush it still keeps coming. A worker at my vets office shaves her pugs. She says its great. She has been shaving them for a year or so. I've been thinking of trying it. She says you can't tell that much difference except........no shedding.

No... do not shave this type of coat... ever it will not helpw ith shedding it will in fact make it worse...
Of course there's no "I" in team... but hey look! There is an "I" in pie :)
Pugs are the worst shedders I have every had in my life. One little adult Pug sheds as much as 5-6 adult Boxers. It is very annoying. Even as 5-6 week old puppies you can run your hand down them and have hair. It is unbelievable.

Hope you aren't too discouraged now. Honestly, much as I hate the hair, Sophie is such a lovable, joyful little clown, that it is worth the extra work. They are terrific little dogs, and you can't be in a bad mood around them for long! Just stock up on lint rollers and a Furminator!
