pyr: I know what she meant, hence my " ; ) " I just love playing Ms. Innocent. I get your latter point though, "if she found the topic upsetting, did she ever enter the thread". I don't think she's a troll per se but she likes stirring it up. She seemed to forget the topic at hand but I can also see how reglious views would be a factor in one's belief/disbelief in ghosts. Although everyone has the right to an opinion and that should never be taken away, it does not give her the right, or anyone else for that matter, to bash people who have different belief systems. That's just deconstructive. Hopefully she'll either calm her grill and contribute in a positive manner while concentrating on the actual question and if she's incapable she'll disappear.
I agree 100%. BTW, sorry, I was trying to get the pups out and didn't see your smiley face~ I apolize.
I guess I look at the web, this forum included as a place to learn, grow, meet new people and listen to others' opinions and exchange views. As I stated, if I were not interested in Dogs seeing Ghosts, I would have skipped the thread, but I (personally) felt that Storm's question was interesting and enjoyed reading (most) of the responses. If I had found the subject objectionable or offensive to my tender sensibilites, I would simply have skipped the thread and not upset myself or gone out of my way to alienate everyone who WAS interested.
Same thing she has done on the latest "let's bash Pits" thread. If you don't like Pits, then stay out of a thread pertaining to them! If you don't believe in ghosts or spirits, don't read the messages from others who do. Simple.
I don't mind a debate on issues, there are many things I know less than nothing about and will admit to it in that case.
I don't mind being asked to clarify position/opinion. No harm, no foul. Even as heated as the debate became at some points over the use of pets as livestock in other countries, no one felt compelled to swear or call one another names if we were on opposing sides of the issue.
The bottom line is, if you (generalization, not you specifically) don't like a thread, don't visit it. If you find yourself opposing someone else's point of view, get your facts straight and debate the issue, if you feel strongly about it.
StormyWinter's original thread became lost under the barrage of garbage, in the large part due to infantile behavior on GrettelGirl's part and (I admit) the response of those whom she offened (yup~ put me at the top of the list!).
I look forward to Storm's next thread and hope that, should it be as though provoking, we'll be able to stick to the topic at hand~grin
***Edited By: pyrmom on 3/31/2005 5:25:49 PM*** Reason: another oops!
pyrmom: agreed, that's why I refer to things as discussion or debate vs. argument. But, things turn that way quickly on some topics that's for sure. I also think that things get misinterpreted too because computer font is emotionless and people come off as sarcastic/rude whatever. Or just misunderstood like me with your post in the 'eat dog' post. (I was ticked in that one though cuz I asked you a simple question whose answer ended up clearing up your stance from my perspective but then I felt jumped on by another member, who thought I was going somewhere else with it) C'est la vie! hvpretty: I know, I was just kidding!
LOL~ I got it on the other thread, wasn't offended in the slighest. Just frustrated that I wasn't able to make myself clear and that we aere all (for the most part) on the same side of the issue, but stating that fact in different ways. Wonder what StormyWinter is thinking up for her next thread? LOL~ hope it's another good one! I forgot to add, I had my daughter read over the posts by Grettel as GoddesIsis had left the boards and I wanted to make sure I had my basic inofrmation written correctly. The fact is, what the heck do we REALLY know of what's out there beyond our percepitons in life? I guess you could use the sound of a siren as an example. A dog is going to hear and react to that airen LONG before it ever reaches our ears, then makes it through to our conscious mind. I think it's the same with the spirits, or essences or ghosts, whatever term you choose. They sense it, we rarely can or do.
Maybe GrettleGirl is a ghost? Maybe she is a satanist pretending to be a christian? She does seem awefully hateful for a christian, I don't think that is what they preach. I always thought they said that their god loves everybody? Hmmm...confusing religion, I will stick with mine. I know most christians are nice, but I have met quite a few like her, especially once they learn about what my beliefs are.
Isis....She has quite a FEW of her "facts" more than slightly skewed! That would be why I provided the links I could find in a hurry...and got my daughter to add a post on there. One link listed 6 or 8 of the major Christian holidays that had been Pagan days of celebration centuries earlier (Christmaas included). You deserted me! lol
As for my next topic........ You will have to wait and see! I don't make them much but for some reason they are usually a hit!! I guess this one was the biggest! lol I agree with pyrmom, If you don't like the topic don't read it! There are many that I just skip right on over and don't think twice about. If you can't contribute to the post don't. If you are going to get offended don't read it. If you were offended by the post just go back to the board and forget the post is even there!
I deserted you *pouts* awww, sowey...:(( Didn't mean to. I had to go to work. I come on this morning and the page is like 2 pages longer, again. I didn't feel like reading every single post, I kinda just skimmed through. And I have a few christian friends. This gretta person gives them a horrible image. My stance is I really don't care what religion you are. You're welcome to practice whichever you want, not my buisness. Just DON'T preach to me or tell me my religion is less founded or somehow less worthy than yours.
Isis, I was digging through the old threads, trying to find the one where we gave our IM information...looking for you before I gave up and IMd my daughter (LunaFate). AS my daughter would say (and I heartily agree) Blessed Be!
Just popping and have not got ten the chance to read everything, BUT I have to say. I do believe there are ghosts. I believe there is a god. Nope I can't see him. But I believe. So who's to say there are not ghosts. Especially when there are more accounts of people seeing them than seeing the lord.
I won't preach my religion to you, but I beg, please do not preach your religion onto me or think you are better than me because you believe in a god that I don't. Freedom of religion means any religion.
"Your faith has nothing to do with what you see. I believe the stronger of a Christian you are, the more you are messed with to try and weaken you." Actually, if you are a strong Christian, God puts a wall around you to protect you...Check the Bible if you don't believe me.
As I was contemplating this topic, I decided to do a web search and see what I came up with. Here is a rather interesting read: http://paranormal.about.com/cs/trueghoststories/a/aa111703.htm An short excerpt: "Animals not only may appear as ghostly forms, they may also be more sensitive to the proximity of spirits. Barbara S. tells of a stray black-and-white cat that her family adopted in the Queens section of New York City. They lived in an old attached house that had no history of strange activity, as far as they knew, but this high-strung kitten seemed to be able to see things Barbara's family could not..." The article goes on to discuss the experiences of several others with this very topic. If you have time, it is def. worth reading.
