I have a female cat, name Sasha , she will get up on my lap and let her claws out and in . She always does it. It's like she's fluffing me. Most of the time she does it on my bare skin. Is it a name for that ,and why does she do it, anyone know ????????????
NayNay, she's telling you that she is content and happy. When kittens nurse from their Mom, the knead their paws up against her. And then when they get older the comfort and joy of cuddling in your lap brings out the kneading instinct but unfortunately, by then they have claws. Ouch!
"kneading" helps the mother cat's milk drop while the kittens are nursing. That is why kitties do it while they nurse. Nursing is a comfy and pleasant experence for kittens, so as they grow into cats they will often continue to knead to show that they feel comfy and content.
