My puppy is about 6 1/2 months old now(a male). He is very spoiled and likes to lie on his back in your arms like a baby. I was just holding him and noticed that he had some discharge from his privet area. Im thinking it might be an infection! I called the vet and he will be seen on Friday. It was greenish/yellow in color. He doesnt have any problems going to the bathroom, and dont seem to have any pain. I dont know if im over reacting, maybe he is just getting to that age? He hasnt started any of that stuff yet though, I am very worried. Any body ever have something like this happen to their male dog? Should I be worried or is it he is just at that age now? Any advice?? Thanks..
Was it just a little bit of greeny looking stuff? All my male dogs seem to have that at times, more often than not. Being a puppy he probably is'nt cleaning himself like his Mom would. You can wipe it away with a wet cloth. If it is an unusually large amount, or has a foul smell, or is interfering with his urination, I'd take him to the vet, otherwise it sounds pretty normal to me.
I'd take him to the vet to be sure he doesn't have an infection of some type. Just to make sure. It's not wrong to be concerned about the health of your pets, it is perfectly normal. Now, the ones that don't take their dogs in when they realize something is amiss, those are the ones that need to learn some sensitivity.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.
It is very common for male pups to have a light-colored discharge, usually similar to pudding in consistency. They simply do not keep themselves as clean as an adult dog would. Unless you notice an odor or it is of a different consistency I don't think it is anything to worry about.
Thanks to everyone who replied, I wanted to let you all know my puppy will be okay. Dozer was seen by our vet and thank goodness everything is alright. She said with a puppy that age it can be very common to have a little discharge and unless he starts acting different (like he is in pain or not feeling well) I shouldnt worry. Thank you all for your advice and concern. I am happy to have find a site like this. Take care!!
