My dog has patches on her 4 legs and on a visit to my vets for a heartworm injection i just mentioned it, she had a look and said its ringworm!! they have took a hair sample and i have to ring in a week what should i do in the mean time and also my husband has a red circle in the crease of his elbow which i think could be ringworm too!! who gave it who??? and what do i do?? any help would be greatful
Who had it first is anyone's guess. People can get it from animals or from touching something that had the fungus. A friend of mine got it and she had no animals. Kids get it from the playground and from each other. My cats had it and once it's in your environment you need to clean everything or it will keep coming back. Diluted bleach should be used on all hard surfaces that won't get ruined. (10 parts water to 1 part bleach) Vaccuum all carpets repeatedly. The dog's bedding should be replaced unless it is washable. Wash all of your bedding repeatedly. You need a shampoo with miconazole or ketacolazole in it. I used Malaseb shampoo on my cats along with the pads for in between baths on the rash sites. Once the vet determines that it is definitely ringworm, there is a liquid medication they can give the dog (fulvacin) and when my cats had it, that was the most effective treatment to get rid of it once and for all. Your husband needs to treat it as well or it will spread and you can catch it too. I had a small spot on my face. It takes a long time to disappear completely. The vet gave me conofite lotion to put on the cats and it's ok to use on your husband as well.
Never heard of it. I researched extensively when my cats got it, spent a lot of time at the vet and got advice from breeders. My vet even did a ton of research because I'm such a nut with my animals and she wanted to do her best for me. My breeder also researched extensively because she was freaking out when her home was exposed. Nobody mentioned Copper Sulfate. I did forget to mention lyme dips though. Very stinky but I would imagine it would be easier to do for a dog than it was for cats. I never used the lyme dips but my breeder did.
Someone dropped off a pregnant bitch at my house and 3 days later she had pups, At 3 weeks old they all had it and so did the mom. The vet gave me oral meds as a matter of fact I think it was flagyl and also he gave the mom some Diflucan a few weeks later. He told me that if my others got it and it was just one or two that I could use Athletes foot cream like tinactin or well I forgot the other one, anyhow he said do not use the spray only the cream and if it was more than one or two then come back so he can give them something oral.He also told me that I would probably get it from touching them all the time and yep I did, I got one on my neck from letting them cuddle on my neck when I was holding them.
I'm sorry to hear that but I guess it could be a lot worse. Ringworm is just a huge inconvenience. I just hope none of the other critters (besides your husband) gets it. It takes a lot of work to get it out of the environment once you have it but it can be done. I am still paranoid any time one of the cats looks itchy. I actually bought myself a black light so I can check them myself. We had the kind that does glow under the light although some only show up on the skin test. Chelsea has a spot on her neck that was just from her new collar rubbing on it but I dragged the poor thing into a dark room and examined her head to toe with the light just to be sure. But we have had no re-occurrences once I cleaned everything and they were treated with the oral medicine. Hopefully whatever they give you in Spain will be as effective as the stuff they gave my cats.
Hi just been to pick up the prescription from the vet he has given KETOISDIN (KETOCONAZOL) tablets for 21 days and I picked these up from the chemist so they are for humans!!
When i went to the chemist last week to get something for my husbands ringworm they gave me Ketonconazol gel that you put on and leave for 5 minutes then wash off and ketoisdin (ketoconazol) cream to put on I was wondering weather it would be ok to use this gel wash and cream on matilda aswel as taking the oral tablets??
