My dog has a schazuer (sorry cant spell)and part yorkie and she is three years old. She always gets this gastroentris at least every 4 months. Well the vet put her on the Hill's z/d and she loves it so I was wondering if I should go to anothr doctor for a second opinion are should I talk to her and see what can I do. Someone told me to switch her food to I/D
What is it that is giving her gastroenteritis? You can treat her your self by giving her stomach a 24 hour rest, and feeding a bland diet. You can offer her water in tiny amounts, and as long as she does'nt vomit, do that about every 2 hours. Feed her plain long grained brown rice and a little bit of cottage cheese, after the 24 hour break. Start with 2 teaspoons. If she keeps it down, give her some more 2 hours later, and so on, slowly increasing the amount. Ask your vet if you can give her Maalox , and the dosage. I would then find the best quality food that you can afford.
We dont know she loves to eat anything off the ground but the vet put her on Hill's zd whicn is for dogs with gastintestial problem but the id is a more bland diet. Thank you foe responding because she is very senstive to anything but if you google gastroenteris in dogs her breed gets ot all the time. Thank you for the advice,
