I went out to get the mail today. There is a intact male pit bull running loose. Well kane and diesel are males also. So I cant bring it in my house. My shelter is a high kill and pits are immediately pts. What can I do for this dog. I am going to feed him. I will try and find a rescue to take him. I dont know his temperment at all.
If we ban Pit Bulls and Rottweilers are humans some dont like next ?
Be careful jgermansh, you never now what a stray dog is like, check the way his tail is positioned maybe that can give you an idea on his temperment. I'm not saying this because he is a pit bull, but because he may not be well socialized. You could leave a bowl of food outside for him and slowly let him warm up to you, who knows, he could be a little sweetie pie. If he ever lets you pet him, you could get him into your back yard and keep diesel and kane at a distance, so all are safe. You have some good experience with bigger dogs, so you will probably figure something out, good luck, and I hope it all works out for both you and the pit bull
If you end up falling in love with this dog and taking him in to your home, I'm sure everyone would love to see pictures
Or, the dog may already have a home, that would be wonderful! You could make a treat trail leading to your back yard LOL, maybe he will enter on in, It is so sad seeing a homeless dog, it always makes me cry. The dog could also have a micro chip or tatoo. :)
I agree with above, be careful. I once took in a stray pregnant pit I found running around in the muddle of winter and almost lost one of my dachshunds when she attacked her. Not saying because it's a pit but would advise being careful with any breed large/strong enough to seriously harm one of your pets. This girl was apparently a dominant girl and attacked my alpha female. I have rescued several pits (usually pregnant) and I was never able to bring intact males here, which all the males seem to be of course, because our american bulldog, neutered male, would not tolerate an adult male. But funny thing is he does let the doxies push him around! But yes be careful. Everything may be fine one moment then all he** can brake loose.
Yes be carefull he may decide he wants to be dominate to the new territory and try to prove himself to you and your dogs.I had a big something do that to me..He got loose from where I tied him while I was running ads for a "found dog" he was on my pourch and wouldnt let me in my own house. The sad thing is that ac said "its the weekend we have no officer for animal control on duty youll have to handle it yourself" He wouldnt cooperate at all and my fiance had no choice but to put him down his self.Be real carefull no matter what breed you find astray.
Maybe it's best to call the aspca, they would probably give him a could start in life. I really don't know what else to say, since he is a somewhat aggressive dog, thats too bad. I guess it's best to call a shelter and let them decide whats best, you wouldn't want some kid or adult going outside and getting chased by a pit, once they see the look of him, someone might come out and try to hurt him since he is a pit bull. I sure do hope that the dog doesn't have to get put down, maybe someone will find him and take him in to their home. Prayers for the pit, mypoodlerocks
