I have a barn cat colony which is perpetually increasing, due to random strays, feral cats, and frequent "drop offs" who show up knocked up, of course. Well, yesterday I took the whole LOT of them into a low cost clinic and got everybody fixed. They may not be all my cats, but they are eating my food, peeing in my garage, and having babies in my barn! Now, the idea is to find some of them new homes. So I put an ad on Craigs List, with a small rehoming fee to help with the vet work. A lady responds that she wants one that looks just like the one pictured, but unaltered. Well, I climbed on my soapbox and emailed her back about the evils of breeding and so on, to which she replied that only irresponsible owners let their pets get pregnant, and I need not to have resorted to MUTILATING them to take care of the problem. Unbeleivable. I pointed out that my mutilated cats were now snoozing comfortably on my picnic table the day after surgery, not the least bit concerned with their missing balls, and still meowing in deep voices...as opposed to the endless peeing, howling and fighting that was taking place. HER cats of EIGHT years, an unaltered male and female, in the same house, have not only not procreated, but display none of those annoying signs of sexual frustration, and I really shouldn't make claims that just aren't true... I am just SO annoyed and exasperated and I realize it is pointelss to argue with some peopel, and even more pointless to rant about it, but if I didn't vent I fear my head would explode. GRRR!

Wow! Sounds like you found the Mom of a couple of the morons on TP. Just be prepared because you are already ticked off and a couple of them will probably be along later to agree with this dope who answered your ad. I have 3 kitties...all spayed. No males, but I don't want a bunch of girls yowling around my house all the time any more than you want a bunch of stray males peeing in your garage. It's just healthier for them overall but you will never convince people like that. She probably has some sort of argument against rabies and distemper vaccinations as well. Some people are just living in their own little world of stupidity.

That person that responded to you is ignorant. If she has had a male and a female for 8 yrs, and no kittens. She has two of the same sex cat! So therefore, she/he does not know what they are talking about. A male and female, whether brother and sister will procreate........so perhaps this person wanted to rile you up.

One day my father called me and said come over I want you to see what I brought back from my trip down south. I get there and Dad proudly shows me his "Rare bob-tailed" kitten.It was mostly black with a little orange and white. I said it was really cute and asked Dad what its name was and he said Bobby. I said that sounded like a male cats name and was informed it was a male cat. I just laughed and told him it should really be called Roberta as it was a female. Well he didn't believe me and refused to take her in to be spayed. Eventually she had six kittens and after that she did get spayed. Some people have to learn the hard way.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing-she probably has two of the same sex and doesn't know it. I seriously dont see how you coudl keep them apart for 8 years! We had a house cat that came into heat like every four weeks, and she was a total pain, yowling and rubbing her butt on everything...if she had a tom in the house then, he would be CRAZY. But she CLAIMS hers have not had a problem with any of those behaviors, no yowling, no marking...whatever. Maybe she actually has bunnies...

Be careful or you will upset CatClyde. We have to respect CatClyde's "beliefe" because he is so "intelegent" and when he grows up he is going to be a "genious" and teach us all his great wisdoms. Maybe he will talk me out of "mutilating" myself when I decide I am done having children. I cannot understand how some people can be so obtuse.
