are you supposed to tip a groomer? I always do my own grooming, but it's too hard to clip one of my dog's nails, he just is too wild. I brought him to the groomer last month and really was impressed at how she was able to clip his nails but then realized i had no idea about the ettiqute of tipping groomers, or if it is expected. Anyone have an input?
The groomer is the only place I can get Max's nails done but I participate in the process because I have to hold him in my lap in a "straight-jacket" kind of hold. She charges $4 and I always give her $5. I never thought about it though. I guess it's like getting your own hair cut, so you should tip lik eyou would there. Thanks for bringing it up! When I have my cats shaved for the Summer, I guess I should be prepared to tip. It's my first time with critters that need professional grooming. That groomer is in my vet's office and you pay at the vet's reception so it probably would not have occurred to me.
As a groomer, it is a matter of personal prefernce. We REALLY appreciate the tips, but it isn't mandatory. Some people do, and some do not, it is about 50/50. If you are really happy with something, an extra little bit never helps. Some people who do tip, tip very well and some on a little bit. It is really up to you. I don't want to sound pushy, just thought you would like to hear it from the groomer side. And thanks a ton to those of you do.
Also some people don't tip every trip, but give really nice x-mas presents. That is just as thoughtful.
My views - it's a service like going to the hairdresser or eating at a restaurant. Do you tip them? My rule of thumb is the same for a groomer (having been one also :) - 10-20% is nice. Unless you think they did a cruddy job. :)
