i have a Great Dane two yearsl ole. We attempted breeding. i have bred before and have had her tested and OFA. They did not achieve a tie but had a lot of penitration. She seems PG. I took her for a Relaxin test at day 31 and it was negative. She seems pg. but could have a small litter. She is not at day 48. Can the Relaxin test be negative if there is a small litter?
My understanding of breeding, is if the bitch doesn't tie, then she wasn't ready. I have known girls who have allowed the dog to mount her anytime during the heat. I have never had the test down, so I help you there. Sperm stays good for about 5days, so even if she didn't tie, it could have been close enough to her right day that she could still be pregnant. I always do 2 breedings just to make sure. Good luck
If it was negative then she is most likely not pregnant. Even though a pregnancy can be achieved without a tie it does not happen very often. Perhaps she is having a false pregnancy which is why she seems pregnant. Either way you will know soon enough.
Yes, they can concieve with no tie. Penetration is enough to have gotten her pregnant, though a tie is more definite. Sperm living for 5 days? I have not seen that info before...sperm will live for 48 hours though inside the female, hence the reason it is usual to skip a day between breedings.
If the test read negative, I would venture to guess she is not pregnant, but experiencing a false pregnancy.
People are like slinky's, not really good for much. But its still fun to push them down the stairs.
